of course it will work. It will fit perfectly. It will just be slightly taller. Less than 1 inch. Probably better because it’s a little taller.

Slightly taller is probably preferable anyway. If you think of all that weight concentrated on the skinny, higher profile spare, it is likely to lose some of its radius at the contact patch where the tire deflects--even at 50-60 PSI. The factory tires will deflect some too, but much less than the spare. This would be magnified further, if you don't have a tire inflator with you, and by the time you need to use it, the spare is rarely still at the ideal pressure.

BTW, I checked my spare fitment at the front, and NO, it does not fit over the 14" Wilwood 6-piston brakes. Anyone know of a good 19" skinny spare that might fit?

Start looking at all the foreign car spare tires, like the foreign cross-overs and smaller SUVs. I started looking and there's a bunch. Then just buy an adapter on ebay. I stopped looking after I checked my original 1998 spare tire.....its in perfect condition and holds air. But I'd still like to find an alternate to use so its just newer.....safer.

So I maybe over simplifying this but can one use the stock 16” wheel with 225/60-16 size as a spare.
Im not worried about it fitting perfectly in the stock storage location .

For sure....that tire will have a taller side wall....5.3 inche side wall.

Factory size is about a 3.2 inch side wall.

The 225/60/16 will work fine to get you where you need to go for a proper repair. Just don't go taking corners like an F1 car.

For 99% of flat tires though...just toss a tire repair kit in your car with a small air compressor. They can both be stored out of site in the spare tire compartment along with the spare tire. Plug it, fill it and go.

If you're going to do a full-sized spare, then 225/55/16 would be a better option because it's much closer to a height match for the stock tires than a 225/60/16.

The only issue would be fitment in the spare tire well. But if you're not concerned about that, then there is certainly no reason not to have a full-sized spare.

I wouldn't call the difference between 4.9" and 5.3" MUCH closer.....but yea......the side wall is less tall than a 225/55/16.

225 is actually pretty wide for a factory spare rim....wonder how it would seal....

Stock tire height is 25.64" (245/50/16), and a 225/55/16 is only 0.1" taller at 25.74". On the other hand, a 225/60/16 is nearly 1" taller than stock at 26.62". So yes, I'd call the 225/55 much closer to stock. In fact, 215/55/16, 215/60/16 and 235/55/16 are all closer matches than a 225/60/16, but 225/55/16 is really the best match of any of the aforementioned sizes.

I get the feeling that bad_408_vert was referring to using the stock 16x8 base wheel, not the factory spare wheel, for this.

Has anyone tried a 125/70r16 as a spare. It is 22.9" overall diameter vs stock spare 22.4. And it is available and will fit stock spare wheel. I just ordered one from Tire Rack. We will see how it works.it is a Continental
