Default Wheel size help

Need some assistance on wheels. I'm looking to do fronts and rears. No bigger than 17s. I'm using the stock rear. I don't want to make any modifications to the fenders and that includes rolling them or the big fu**in hammer mod. Car will eventually make 550-600 HP and currently makes roughly 450 to the wheels. The stock 16s dont allow a wide enough tire to hook nor are they all that great looking. What are some recommendations?.. again no mods to the fenders and no shortening of the rear. Thanks.

People with experience at those power levels... Obviously the tread compound and design will be the biggest difference maker.. But should I be looking at 9.5s or 10.5 wheels? thoughts?

a 275 would be the largest you can really run without doing any fender modification, later model ws6 and SS models came with a 17x9 and 275/40 setup factory. take a look at the sticky at the top of the page and that has all the wheel fitment/size specs for these cars as well as the tires that fit. a 295 fits nicely on a 10.5 wheel but you will need to roll fenders and/or do the BFH mod. i have 18x10.5 wheels with +50mm offset with a 295/35 tire and had to roll my fenders and do a little massaging of the inner wheel well but not that much

You can go a little bigger than 275mm on a 17x9" without needing modifications to the body. I personally used to have a 285/40 (Goodyear F1 GS-D3) on a 17x9.5" (+46mm offset) TTII wheel with zero modifications to the vehicle (no hammer, no massage, no rolling - nothing) and zero problems in the rear. In the front, it did not work - 275/40 was maximum with that particular wheel size/offset.

I mentioned the tire brand specifically because these were known to run especially wide in any size, plus obviously taller (vs. a 275/40). I don't think they make much in a 285/40/17 size these days though. I bought those 10+ years ago. But, as a point of reference, they fit with no problems at all on my '98 Z28.

Got it... I'll like have to run the 275/40s all the way around. For the 285s, All ive been able to find were Continental Extremes and Nitto G2s.. Both are high performance summer tires, Neither of which I'll want to put on the rear as they wont get the job done. Fine for street, not so much for the track.

Thanks for the assistance, RPM.
