Default Tire brands and size options

Hello, what’s the best tire brand for a 2002 trans am ws6? 275/40/R17 —The car is not being driven hard or raced, just a cruiser with the occasional acceleration to hear the v8.
Or if there are other options available other than the stock size please share them.

many thanks 🙏

The Michelin Pilot Sport All Season is a great tire. It has different tread pattern from the inside to deal with wet and light snow and the outer tread pattern to deal with hot and dry conditions. Made in the USA as well.

The other brand to look at is Continental. They have Extreme Contact and a Extreme Contact Sport 02.

thanks for sharing the above information 👍

not really sure yet if I should stick with the OEM tire size or go wider, is it possible to have different tire size at the front and go wider in the back like for example 305 or even 315 ? Will this affect the handling of the car in a bad way ? Will there be rubbing from the back wider tires? I’m not really an expert on tires and whatnot but I guess someone here must have tried that at least 🤷 I live overseas in UAE where it’s hot most months and we get a few rainy days in the year but nothing major. And unfortunately the stock oem tire size is very rare here.

kind regards

The OEM size seems perfect to me as I drive my car like you. I upgraded to the WS6 OEM size after my 16" Trans Am rims were replaced due to leaks. I had BFG G-Force on my old rims with no complaints, and went with the BFG G-Force Comp 2 A/S this time around. I've been extremely impressed with these and the tread design is excellent. The price is a bit less than the Michelin but perhaps overseas it is different. The heat you experience in the UAE should not be an issue.
You can't go wrong with the above suggestions by @70T/A400 or these BFG. Just avoid anything Made in China. You get what you pay for.

I run BFG G-Force Super Sport A/S 275/40ZR-17 on all 4 and sometimes I'll run Nitto 315/35-17 drag radials on the rear. No problem with clearances on the rear 315s' but Nittos are known to run a little smaller.

Do you have any rubbing issues with the 315? I know that nitto are a little bit narrower than other brands if I’m not mistaken. Plus is your car lowered by any chance? My concern is after I install lowering springs, the tires will rub if I go for a 315 wide rear tires.
thanks for sharing

Yes, Nittos seem to run narrower than other brands. No lowering on my Z, me and the Z are travelers and no telling what kinds of road conditions would be encountered.

Hey guys, hope you’re doing well.

bought BMR sp090r lowering springs and American racing TT2s (Fbody size) and an adj BHP from BMR

front 17x9.5 backspace 7.0 offset 46mm

rear 17x11/ backspace 7.7 offset 45mm

now regarding the tires, I was thinking of running Nitto 555r2 315/35 R17 as I’ve heard they are narrower than other tires and I don’t want to rub or have any fitment issues so I don’t want to roll the fenders or take a hammer to the wheel wells.

I’ve also looked at the Mickey Thompson Street comp tires in OEM size 275/40 R17 and 315/35 R17

not sure whether the 315’s from M/T will be better than Nitto though. I don’t daily drive the car and no drag racing events either. Just a cruiser and I drive it 3 times a week.

your feedback and advice are greatly appreciated.

thank you
