Default How do you like your tires?

I am going to have to get new tires soon and want some feedback. If you run any type of aftermarket street tire, tell me about it PLEASE!

I have searched the forum and read reviews at TireRack and Discount Tire Direct, but I can't really come to any conclusion.

This is for an '02 WS6. I drive 3 hours each way to college several times a semester--whether its sunny, rainy, snowy, or whatever. I try to limit my time in the snow, so if I can get around on it (better than my bald F1's) thats fine.

I want a tire that gets good traction in wet weather and rides nicely in dry weather. I live in MO and the roads SUCK so this is important. I also care somewhat about how the tire looks, but this is not as important (I really don't like the F1-GS3's.

I want to keep the cost reasonable as well (not over $200 or so), and they need to last decently. I don't race much so great dry traction is not a huge concern (when I get my car built up I'll just get some ET Streets on separate wheels or something).

So can you guys help me out? Tell me whether or not they are good in the rain and snow as well as the other things I mentioned. And if you DO NOT like your tires TELL ME! I want to hear this and reasons just as much as recommendations. At least then I can narrow it down.

THANKS!!!

I live in Kansas and I too have the same situations you do. I am looking at Pirelli's Pzero. They have good traction and temperature or whatever and a 400 treadware rating which should last a long time. I heard they are good tires. Just my opinion and I found them for $147/tire plus you have to add the road hazard program and shipping if you want that too. Total cost, 700 or so.

I am happy with my BF Goodrich KDW tires, they are a good all around tire. I was very happy with my Michelin Pilot Sports, and I currently have Kumho Extsa MX's which are rather cheap, but not oo shabby of a tire either.

Those BFG KDW tires are looking better and better. I was wondering, since you live in IL, have you used this in snow/ice conditions at all? I know that they are not a snow tire or anything, but I will drive my car in the snow some and it needs to at least be able to get me around. The bald Goodyear F1's on there now WILL NOT get me around in the winter. I couldn't even get out of my parking space one time last year and they had more tread on them than they do now. So I was just wondering if anyone has used these in the snow or ice. What about the Kuhmo's or the F1 GS-D3's? What about the Pirelli's? Thanks for the response.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-tires/212280-goodyear-eagle-f1-gs-d3.html

My review is in this link. I run 285/35-18 on all four corners and LOVE them to death.

I have Pirelli P7000 SS's (all-season) 275/40-ZR17's on all four corners, and they're alright I guess. I never drive the car in rain or snow so I have no idea how they are in shitty conditions, but they break loose pretty damn easily so my next tires aren't gonna be these. They're pricey, and I don't need all-seasons; just dry weather tires. If you're considering these, I'd look at others unless you find a deal on them.

Firestone's new Fuzion tires are rather cheap, and are supposed to be great performance tires. I'd look into those, as they're probably what I'd get next.

whats the best bang for buck tire, heavy rain being the only issue. Prefer something that will have decent street grip in case i floor it now and then.

Those 275/40/17 are $172 at discount tire + tax/tag/title each.

GS-D3's are darn good tires. In wet and dry conditions they work awesome and seem to have a prity good tread life for the performance IMO. Can't go wrong

My bro's old mustang my z28 and a friends ws6 are all running Dunlop SP sport 5000's No complaints at all, my car never see's rainy days but the ws6 has been through some big puddles and had 0 issues with it. Same goes for the mustang. I get enough traction with them in dry weather... soo for me they are just fine. The mustang and the Z had BFG gforce KDW's before... good tire as well...

I have had the GS-D3's since having a stock F1 break the bead and cause me to spin into a ditch. The GS-D3's sidewall is much stiffer, and the traction both wet and dry is freaking incredible. Basically a slick with grooves cut into it for water flow. I have to work to break the tires loose now, burnouts are almost impossible, and driving through standing water is a breeze. Snow, I dunno. I did alot of research and reading and came up with the GS-D3's for best all around tire.
