Default best performance tires for summer?

im looking to get some seperate tires for the summer months .. ive been looking at pirelli but i checked out the stats at tirerack
at first i loved the pirelli p7000 just because they sounded so hot, but here they basically call them garbage, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS
how is that possible. well, thoes are all season so i guess i will have to forget about them.

heres the max performance chart, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=MP how will these go on my car? im looking for high traction/handling and long tread life

If you get 18s, I highly recommend the Bridgestone Potenza SO3 Pole Positions. I had the SO2s, and they were unbeaten in dry/wet handling, and the new 3s are even better!

yeah, i liked them, but the price seems really high, how many miles will the s03's last? im gonna need about 275/40s for the z06 rims.. and the s03's are 250 each? id have to get 18'' wheels since they dont make 275/40 for the 17''s..

same Q for the GS-D3, about how many miles?

im looking for high traction/handling and long tread life[/QUOTE]

Don't expect both high traction and long tread life. I have GS-D3's and they are by far the best tires I have ever owned. Great traction, smooth ride, excellent handling.

Mileage out of them?? I will have to let you know. I put 12k on them last season. They still have most of the tread left. I hope to get 30-40k out of them. I do not expect more.

Also, they are almost better wet than dry, and they are awesome dry.

Good luck!

GS-D3's are by far the best summer tire if you get any rain. I have a set of 275/315's and I can still haul *** down the highway in the pouring rain. And they don't break loose unless I try to break them loose. S-03 Pole Positions are good tires, but they wear out way too quickly and the GS-D3's are just as good dry, and way better wet. Plus, they're a little cheaper.

Hmmm....Good question. I'm not sure about an automatic; mine's a stick, but from a 5mph roll (idle speed with the clutch engaged) I can floor it with no wheelspin.

When I had my BFG KDW and I have 275/40 17 they would not break loose unless I brake torqued to 2,000 rpm in the summer. Got less than 15,000 miles out of them though. The GS-D3 have a better looking tread IMO but I do not know that they would be any better...

I have about 5,000 miles on mine, and the wear so far is less than 1mm. I haven't driven on them in the summer, though.

I have Goodyear 275/40/17 F1 GS-D3's and they are awsome street tires! On warm drive pavement with a basically stock F-body they might spin barely and then hook like crazy. On freezing cold pavement - the will spin, but most any tire will. On wet pavement - of course they will spin like crazy if you smash the pedal, but the hook better than any tire I have ever driven on wet roads - amazing really. The thing I really notice about the GS-D3's is that they are very stable even when spinning. On other tires once they spin - its like the back end is on ice - sliding all over the place. With the DS-G3's even when you can feel them spinning everything feels very controllable and you stay pointed forward as you roll out of the spin.

BFG KD absolute glue once warmed up. Just remember that it will take a while to warm up a big tire on the street, first 15 mins are usually worse than a regular tire.

I wish my D3's would hurry up and get here. With my kumho's I have now they will hook until I hit 3krpm's then after that I even have to watch out shifting into second gear. If I power shift it and hold it to the floor it will bounce off the rev limiter. You would think I was sparying or something.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are your best bet. I don't own them yet but ive been in your situation before. They are the best traction for dry times and GREAT wet traction. Also ive found the Michelin Pilot sports to be similair in quality. The Goodyears have great tread life. Just my research findings.
