It could probrably work, might not look that great though. I've also heard of guys slicing it into sections and then folding the lip up. I might go that route in the spring instead of renting a roller. There is always the baseball bat method too.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I guess I will break down and rent one for $50. Maybe I can find one locally.

I just rolled my fender with the Eastwood Fender Roller....it was quite a challenge and quite a workout. The second fender was a little easier, but still quite a workout. It was hard enough using the tool designed for the job....I would hate to try it with a baseball bat...

I have the eastwood fender roller and it does have a learning curve. The 1st one does take a little while to do but the second side was easy. I was very happy with the way they turned out.

Is the fender roller hard to use on Trans Ams? The quarter panel lip is pretty wide and thick. I've been thinking of getting a hold of one just to do it. I've also found a shop that can do it for me, but will cost me more $$$.

You can rent one at http://fenderroller.com/ . You might find one at a local bodyshop too. However, they would want to do the work instead of renting it out.

BTW: I know atleast one member owns one and rents it to people. I forgot who it was but if you search you can probrably find him.

I've read on the internet that you could rent a fender roller from The Tire Rack, but the waiting list was rather large. It was posted that they charge the cost of shipping only both ways which is $30 to use the roller. But I don't know how true that statement is as I never used the roller, I just rolled them by hand.

But as they say............. YMMV

Do not grind the lip back, There is a gap between the outer panel and the wheel house. If you seperate these two panels you will seriously weaken the quarter panel and invite corrosion/rust. I also wouldnt suggest cutting slices in the pinch weld or lip to aid in bending it. This will also invite rust "esecially on a daily driver" and like suggested earlier it will weaken the outer panel. The unitized frame rails on the fourth gen F bodys have weak spots were they curve around the fuel tank to the back of the rear seat. The outer quarter skin is acually part of the structural make up of the rear of the car. This is why we get the unexplained dimples or slight waves around this erea above the wheel opening. The lip will stretch just fine without cutting it, also be sure to scribe the paint just inside the wheel opening lip to act as a breaking point if the paint starts flaking/peeling. This way you will not have to repaint the quarter panel, only the inside lip. if your not rolling the lip flat for max tire clearance you may not have to worry about the paint.
