Question How long do new tires last just sitting in a garage?

Just bought some tires and cars not close to running. Was wondering if the tires will start to get hard or old just sitting in the garage mounted to my rims? I am guessing about 3-5 months..should be fine right?
Someone told me that after about 5-6 months they start to get become a little hard and dont hold traction as good?

just store them without any air in them and without any direct sunlight. They will last for years in that case.
