Default NEED HELP, wheel stud problem.

Almost had a wheel fall off just about 30min ago. I was driving down the road and I felt this awful vibration, and a clacking sound. Get home and check my driver side rear TT2 and I could have taken the lugnuts off with my hand. They were loose, took the tire off and looked at the studs and there is a washer type deal on one of the studs, and the other 4 don't have them. I think this broke and caused the studs to move and back the lugs out. Whenever I grabbed the studs and moved them I heard the clanking sound I heard when the studs it the rotor.

What do you all think? I posted a pic of the broken washer deal. Please help...

Is that one of the washers that holds the rotors on while the car is on the assembly line?

I'm not sure but it goes over the stud, probably is because the one that was actually on the stud had like teeth that dug into the threads of the stud, which would keep the rotor on.

I bet that's it. But they're on most cars and just about everybody leaves them on there. Do you have any enemies who'd break your lug nuts loose on you? That's why I have the 20 gorilla locking lug nuts on mine.

I tightened the wheel and took it up the road, everything was fine.

But I checked teh lugnuts again and they were a little loose....what could cause these lugnuts to back out like that????

stripped stud bolts? Stripped lug nuts? Try lock tight lol

seriously though.. I know they have these certain locking nuts where when they try to back out they get tighter.

You MAY have to use open ended lug nuts like I just picked up. They look like **** but it was the ONLY thing that would work until I find out which lug nuts I need.

Do you have a torque wrench? If not, try to find one and set it on about 100ft/lbs. I haven't ever heard of anyone having to use loctite, but if you do, use a low/medium strength..usually green or blue I think. If you use the red stuff, you'll have to use heat to get them off. I've broken SEVERAL 1" drive ratchets b/c of that damn red loctite.

Don't put lock tight on them, you won't be able to get them off easily, you'd probly end up breaking the wheel studs to get the lugs off.

LOL no an impact won't help. Trust me, don't put lock tight on. If anything buy new lugs and studs, they dont cost much.
