Default ET street radial, odd wear pattern

I've noticed my et street radials don't have a smooth fell to them, up close, it looked like the rubber is feathering off. My Nitto's were always smooth but the ET's feel very rough after some mileage.

Was there a bad batch or is this normal?

they are a much softer compound
if you do a burn out on a regular tires you will get the same feathered feel
the tires wear out very quick from what i hear

only reason i found it odd is because a buddy with the exact same tires (size and all) isn't having that problem. They are definately soft on his car by feel but look smooth like when they were new.

Did you ever have the regular et streets and notice this too? Do slicks do the same thing?

I'm stumped and a little concerned.
