Default Installing New Wheel Studs

I was wondering if you can install new wheel studs in the rear by just smacking the old ones out with a hammer, and then bolting the new ones in, pulling them through by bolting on the rims. A shop just told me I couldnt do it that way and the axles had to be removed and then have the studs pressed in. So what do i do?

You can use and old lug nut and some washers to re-install a lug stud.

The trick is geet the lug out between the brake shield and the hub, although I hear if you ahve traction control there is a little plug in the sheild you can remove.

When installing the new one dont just only use a lug nut to pull it, put a few thick washers on to it just to get it all the way.
