Default Chrome TT2's

Guys, I need some advice.

Thinking about TT2 wheels for my car, but I want them in chrome.

American will chrome the center but leaves the barrel polished for an extra $90/wheel. Sounds kinda weird, I'm worried about how they will look, and I've still got wheel maintenance issues. One side benefit is you can specify a custom offset, but I would probably leave that well enough alone.

ChromeYourWheels.com will chrome the polished rims for about $120 and says they look pretty good. American says they look awful as the plating cannot get into the crevice where the 2 pieces come together.

Cal Chrome says you must grind out the welds, seperate the 2 pieces, chrome both pieces and reweld. They want $225/wheel.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Pics would be great.

Thanks

Those are the wheels I'm looking to get. You really can't tell the difference between the polished and chromed pieces. If maintenance is the issue, its definitely easier to clean and polish the rim as opposed to polishing the whole wheel. Besides, at 80mph all you see is the chrome spinning! By the way, on ebay, there's a store called RCA International (I think), they sell mainly polished wheels. I asked if the carry chrome and they replied "yes...$1600 for the set of 2-17x9.5 275/40/17, 2-17X11 315/35/17 with a delivery time of 6-8 weeks." Not a bad deal at all, I just don't know if 17x11 will fit our convertible. Check this link out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-17x...spagenameZWD1V

Good link, worth looking into, thanks.

So you think the Americans with the chrome center and polished barrel are the way to go? Why can't they just chrome the whole thing? Jeez!!!

Wish I could see one up close. I'm afraid it might look like a 2 tone being half polished & half chrome. American says they look like all chrome if you keep the rims polished.

How hard is it to keep those rims polished up? I'm not much of a polisher.

It's not hard at all keeping them polished as long as you keep up with it. I polish them with mother's aluminum polish every time I wash my car.

If I Could Do It All Over Again I Would Go With The Chorme Centers. If U Have A Polished Lip And They Get Damaged They Are Easier To Fix Then Chrome Lip Rims...

RCA international is a good place. I got my TT IIs from them about a month ago. As for fitting on a drop top it should be no prob. Check out DADDYSS on here he has an SS rag with 17x11 TT IIs out back

You have to be careful when 2 different people chrome on your wheels. Everyone uses different steps and the chrome may look less shiny on one or the other. If you want them chrome its best just to purchase them plating from the same person and not american racing. Just get the wheels from them. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the input guys.

Just talked with a guy who had the half chromed TTII's. He said he didn't know they had a polished rim, he thought they were all chrome when he bought them. After he put them on the car they didn't look right and he got rid of them.

Gonna talk to a few more chrome shops on monday and see what they say. Cal Chrome seems like they know how to do it, but I'd hate to ruin a new set of these things.

Anybody know of a good chrome place that can get these wheels apart, chrome them and get them back together with good results??

Thanks for the tip. I assume you mean these guys:

Wheels America 33446 Western Ave Union City, CA 94587?? I'll call them tomorrow.

Did they split them apart or chrome them as one piece? This seems to be the big debate. I've heard if they don't split them apart, they look OK for a while, then the chrome starts failing in the crevice where the 2 pieces get welded together.

How long ago did you have it done and have they seen any bad weather?

Pic would be great if you got one.

Thanks!

yes im talking about those guys... as far as splitting them apart im not sure i guess i really didn't pay that much attention to how they did it as long as the overall finish looked good. i had them done as soon as i bought the wheels in april, they have seen just about any kind of weather, dirt and abuse besides salt and snow. the only pics of the rims i have is when i got them back and it's nothing up close it's just a pick of the wheels and tires. I don't know how to post pics on this site in order to share but if you send me your email i can send the pics i have.

Default Dont get your Torq Thrust II TTII wheels chromed by ChromeYourWheels.com

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had Torq Thrust IIs and decided to go ahead and have ChromeYourWheels.com chrome them. Well i cost me about $700. Need less to say they lasted about 3 weeks and the chrome started peeling in the center of the rim really bad. It was coming off in sheets. Make a long story short they suck bad!!! Do not do it! I ended up having to get new wheels. The whole thing ended up costing me about $2900 between initial price of wheels, chrome, and new wheels, not to mention all the mounting and balancing.

The only peeling i've noticed so far is in between the face and lip of the wheel (RR only) not really noticeable at all until you get down there to clean them and see it. My center cap is starting to peel im not sure if thats the clear coating or the chrome it self. But with the warranty come winter time they will be sent back out and fixed!
