Is Traction better with 315's on a 17x9.5 or better with a 285?

I know the 315's look meaner but is there any traction difference between the 2 on a 17x9.5 rim?

You will prolly get less traction with the 315 due to the bulge. Not to mention it won't look very well, and isn't that safe...

777 thanks for your input - have you ever had 315s on a 17x9.5 rim?

Nope. I wouldn't run them on a 9.5" rim. I try and stay in line with what the manufacturer recomends It only obvious that if you have a wide tire on a small rim the contact path will be smaller than normal and not safe. Plus they weigh more.

Put the 315 on an 11" rim and be done with it.

We have a 315 on a 9.5 and it isn't bulging as much as it did on a 9" rim.
Can't really compare traction since we ran 2 different tires,
285/40/17 Kumho 712 vs a 315/35/17 BFG KD.
