Default Skinnies on the Road

I was curious if anyone out there is running skinnies on the front for more than that drag strip. I want to purchase some but my issue is that I heard you should only use them at the track and not as a daily driver. Please give me some input...greatly appreciated.

ive heard of people
who have heard of people
who have wrecked their cars
using skinnies on the freeway

but i have never heard of anyone
who had done it themselves.

i want to run 15x3.5" prostarts
ive already the 15x10"s in the rear.

let me add a question to this thread=

what is the "widest" "skinny" we can run?
ive heard we cant use 3.5x4" or x6"?
is that true?

I have been running skinnys (15x3.5) on my car for the past 9 months and put around 7000 miles on them with no problems. I do not drive my car everyday, just on the weekends if it isn't raining, but I have been caught in the rain before, just have to drive slow and give yourself plenty of time to stop or they WILL slide. I drive probably 65 miles one way to the track here on them and haven't had any problems...

My boyfriend daily drives his SS with skinnies up front. He hasn't had any problems. Only difference is that it feels a little more mushy when turning but that's really it, and that is easily rectified by slowing down in the turns a tad slower than with "regular" tires.

No, this is not just a "friend of a friend" thing. I drive the car all the time too.

They're Pro-Stars, fwiw 15x3.5 and 15x10

You'll have to be careful taking curves fast and making sharp turns. But you'll get used to it. The 15x3.5s are not DOT legal, so they're not "inteded" to be used on the highway. You'll have to grind the calipers or run spacers and longer studs if you want Weld wheels. Some Centerlines fit w/o grinding. Or if you have alot of $$ to spend you can get Bogarts (best choice).

You can drive on them forever if you are just careful and don't take turns like a champ or drive on very rough roads.

I had them on my 71 when I first bought it, when I took it out for the first ride of the season I forgot to check the tire pressure. Well don’t drive on them with low tire pressure. The very first turn I found out why, I turned the wheel; the car went straight. Wasn’t going fast thank god. When I looked at the tires you could see the pavement marks across the whole sidewall.

I usually put mine at a slightly higher pressure for lower rolling resistance. I definately did NOT try to do any cornering as it handles worse than a SUV. I also had no front sway bar so that added to it, but you get used to it quick.

I daily drive my skinnies including the weekends it's a 50 mile back and forth with work daily. Never had a problem with them, just note what everyone said about the whole thing about doing crazy driving, swerving , etc...You can't do that with skinnies and becareful on them turns...Other than that they should be fine and plus it takes a pretty good amount of weight from the front.
