Thumbs up Pls help me get started on drag slicks and wheels

My streets are Fikse 9.5x17 F and 11x17 R FM-10 with 275/40 and 315/35 Goodyears...I change to my 8 spoke painted 17x8 275/40 Goodrich Drag radials for the track right now but I spin them too often even at 16 lbs. I just went to a Strange 12 bolt 4.10. My mechanic/pal says I need to go to 26x16x8 or 9" and M/T (equiv) slick tires...I understand that Bogarts will allow for 15" at the rear brakes but $$ is a bit tight right now for wheels (whaaa)...still I want to move on this. It seems like most drag aluminum wheels I see don't mention offset and see notes about spacers etc...my 17x11s are 43mm and the 17x9.5s are 38mm (?)...back to size...16" wheels look like a better choice for clearing rear calipers? true? Please point me to a thread or two for drag wheels and slick tires to get me moving...thanks wheel and tire experts!!

Search!!! There's a bunch of threads on this. I just picked up a new set of 16x8 white ZR1 rims from a 97 SS convertable for $275 plus $60 shipping. I have a set of 255/50/16 Mickey Thompson drag radials to mount on them(same as 26x10.5's). You can pick up stock Camaro 5 spokes pretty cheap too. I'd like a set of lightweight 15" drag wheels but like you no money to drop on an expensive set of wheels and tires. Got about $600 in the wheels and tires right now. I had a set of 245/50/16's with about half tread that I'm going to use for front runners. Is our car a Camaro or Firebird? Offsets are different between them. Birds have less offset since they have more flaired fenders than Camaros.

I'm searching now.
Camaro w/rolled fender lips
I'd like to find a lighter aluminum wheel in 16".
So it looks like a tire 26" x 10.5 tire on a 16x8 or 9 is a descent size?
Any aluminum wheels that don't require spacers?
