Default mini tub and lca question?

i have bmr (the fat round red ones) lca and that seems to be the next obsticle in my way, how much room can i get with a thinner lca thats spaced to the inside. what lca would be the best and what could i use for spacers?

this is what i have,

i have hp evo wheels with the fat lip, they are 9 inches wide, i want to get them widened to 12 and go with some 335/30/18. i cant space the wheels out cause i am lowered and it will hit the fender, all i need is maybe 1 inch a side from moving my lca in, is that possible?

Yeah, I run the 18x12 w 335s out back and have tried to get around it but will have to end up doing the mini tubs. So don't waste your time and do it right the first time: wolfe mini tubs and wolfe offset lca's. Then you'll be good to go.

12 inch wide wheels with a 8 inch backspace and 1/8" wheel spacers here. Running 27x13 slicks. Did a lot of inner fender liner pounding, rolled fender lip and flared it another half inch with a Harbor Freight porta power unit. No repaint necessary.

Man I feel for ya. ...I bet having to flare your fenders wasn't just a walk in the park!!? Luckily the Trans Am rear quarters provide just enough clearance so that all I had to do was roll the fender lips. BTW what kind of slicks are you running?

We've got lower control arms which are offset. They are moved inward quite a bit, we can use custom spacers to move them in a variety of locations. Obviously we are limited by the mounting points. They are QA1 rod ended though...so if your limiting yourself to poly or rubber, your going to be stuck.

Btw, you shouldn't have to mini tub the car to fit the tires. If you did mini tub it, I would HIGHLY advise shortening your axles, THEN mini-tubbing it so that you can move the wheels inward more while retaining a nice dishing on your wheels. Just minitubbing the car will not solve the issue of the huge backspace you'll need...which is not very easily obtainable from many manufactures...we have larger backspace options then others...

Actually it wasn't as hard as expected with the hydrallic unit. Yeah I know, the TA's have more room. I've got a '93 TA also, but I can't touch that one, belongs to the wife. My 27x13 tires are Goodyear radial road race slicks in 210 compound. I've also got 25x13 bias ply, which fit much better even though the same width.

I had a look at those Wolfe Craft mini tubs. Not a bad idea, actually. They really don't have them out yet though, and the pictures are just of the prototype. I would wait a while on those and let them work the bugs out of them. One problem I see is they eliminated the stock chassis stiffeners on the inside of the car, and one of the wheel house walls that is heavilly reinforced. That is OK as long as they put something back to restore the integrity of the unit body, but they do not show that in those preliminary pictures.

I am using QA1 3/4" rod ends on my LCA's and will likely machine my own offset spacers. Right now I get a small amount of tire rub on the LCA's with the 27x13's.

As for the backspace, I ordered Real brand racing wheels, which come in any backspace you want. I got 16x12's with a 8 inch backspace, which is perfect for my needs.

Yeah, I'm lowered 2" and get some rubbing on the inner fenderwall when going over an incline diagonally. I wonder if goodyear has some DOT tires in 27x13. I'm getting the car back in a couple weeks and it should have 800+rwhp. Looking for some traction already....Have michelin pilots but was looking at the BFG drag radials but the tread looks so dog ugly I don't think I can do it. Right now I'm looking at the michelin pilot sport cup race tires for the rear.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport street tires too; they last very well but traction sucks, especially on the 18 inch rims. I'm going back down to 17's for my street tires, and I'm already racing on 16's. How about Nitto 555's for your car?

I thought the widest they offered them in was a 315? If they had a 335 or 345 then yes I'd look into that. But they have a reputation for being rather narrow as compared to other brands...

Come to think of it, that is true. Not sure what Goodyear offers in DOT drag tires, but they must have something. Mine are a different animal, non-DOT roadrace. One thing I have noticed is Hoosiers are usually on the big side for their labeled size.

Yea, the pilot cup tire is designed as a DOT road race/ auto X tire. So it should have alot more grip than the street going pilot sports. BUT they have a tread depth of 6/32 which means I might not get many miles out of them.... Mickey T just came out with their drag street radials up to 18" wheels and were promising but come to find out they don't have the right size. Oh well...maybe i'll just hook up some nitrous cylinoids in front of my back tires to spray traction adhesive when I go WOT!! lol
