Default How trustworthy is a plugged tire?

Night before last i decided to take my car out for a nice high speed test. When I got back, I heard a loud hiss and it turns out I got a nail through the tread and out through the sidewall of the tire. I know tireshops arent supposed to plug tires with holes in the sidewall but the uy understood i couldt shell out 125$ for a new tire...so he plugged the sidewall as well. How trustworthy is this? I dont plan on flying around at 100mph anymore but i hope it will be stable up to interstate speeds. Thoughts?

Patch in the tread no problem
Patch in the sidewall NO F**KING WAY
Toss that tire and get a new one, your life is worth more than $125 isn't it

IF it was the tread, then it wouldn't be a problem, but the side wall flexes. THis should be replaced as soon as possible!

Please go to Discount and get a new tire. If you have good credit you will have 90 days to pay it off. Your life is too important to chance it.

patch or plug in the sidewall is actually illegal and very very unsafe.Your taking a hell of a chance driving that car with that tire on it.

I wouldn't ever consider a patch on the sidewall. You must have a well defined death wish.

Definitely get it replaced. I have about 5 paches and plugs on my nittos, still work great, BUT all of the holes were on the tread (which reminds me, I need new tires). If the sidewall was damaged, trash 'em.

Alright thanks for the info guys. I was going to ask why a plug in the sidewall was so unreasonable compared to one in the tread but thats pretty obvious too. Here I am trying to save money and it looks like Im going to have to blow 230$ on two rear Fuzion ZR1s. Oh well theyve only got about 200-300 miles left on them anyway.

im a tire installer and i would recomend you get a new tire ASAP, haveing a plugged sidewall is very bad, it weakens the sidewall which could lead to a potental blowout.
