Default M/T says 255/50/16 is too big for 16x8?

Hello yall i just purcahsed some 255/50/16 ET street drag radials. And had them mounted on some stock 16x8 rim. I looked at the m/t chart and it says i need a 10 inch rim. Also i just Emailed the tech support for Mickey thompson and they wrote that i needed atleast a 10 inch wide rim? I hope everthing is good and safe. I orginaly had 26x11.5x16 mounted on the 16x8 rims without tubes. I felt that they were not as safe because of they were mounted without tubes and 11.5 seems to wide for a 8 inch rim and the tires didnt feel stable. Thats why I went with the 255/50/16 M/T drag radials instead but now i am being told that its too big for the rim i got now I just wanted to have a safe tire setup that will hook up. The guys at the tire shop said it was the right size. Some info would be great.

The measuring rim in their chart is a 10" They suggest a 8.5-10" rim. I've got mine on 8's and they fit fine. SLIGHT buldge on the sides but they work fine. I put a couple hundred miles and about 20 passes or so on them so far and no issues.
