I liked my Nittos. Just installed the ET Street DR's. Hopefully they will hook better on the street.

I had M/T DRs for the track and i drove em on the street a few times just cuz they look mean, and i decided to try and see if i chould hook from a dead stop without a burnout, i spun and spun and hooked, definatly wasnt a good street tire. I know have BFGs on the way but thats just because i got a good deal on some Prostars and teh Tires. If i was forced to drive with any DR in the rain. I.E. Nitto, BFG, MT. I would defintly choose BFG, the tread pattern is more spread out on those tires, seems to be the safest.

MT ET Street Drag Radials are good street tire sthat hook immaculately ... key word Radials . To get good even wear, I had to run them at 18-22 lbs of air. When they hit the tread bar, I learned to pull them off and use them for Dragstrip use ONLY because they skate in the rain ... about like the Nitto's do.

i have a set of 275/40/17 bfg`s(reg tread pattern) and they hook pretty descent for me on the street (M6). im also looking for new tires,,i dont like the tread pattern of the new bfg dr`s and cant seem to find same pattern i have now. anyone know what treads im talkin about?? would i be better of gettin 315/35/17 bfg`s (old tread) or 315/35/17 nittos? hard for me to tell as my uncles ss is a complete BEAST compared to mine, hard to tell the diff in his nittos and my bfgs

they changed the old bfg's i heard. i do know what your talking about though. the old 1's almost look like a normal street tire. the new ones have a diamond shape type tread. my friend had a 97 ss m6 with full bolt on's and 4.10's. with a litte warm up they hooked up pretty good. the car ran high 12's. he went through them like water though. he went through 2 sets in a year. he know has a 383 with afr lt4 heads and the MT DR and hook F*CKIN great for a 460rwhp car. he has had them a year and there still plenty of ware left. there's about 3/32 left in the tread. he runs 15 lbs on the track and 23 lbs on the street. i drove they car with both setups and i vote MT over the bfg's. the BFG's were pretty good though especially for a bolt on car. anything more i would go with the MT's. i never messed with the nitto's. i heard they blow as far as a drag radial.

I still say nittos, they should be pretty warm if you are driving around on them.

Alright, how much mileage are you guys getting out of the tires without too many burnouts? I want to go with the MT's if I can get over 5k miles out of them. If not I will do the nitto's. Are the MT's the best for grip when cold?

If you drop the air pressure and run them on the street at about 20-22 lbs max, you'll get 5000 out of the MT ET s/d radials. If you apply more air, the center crown will wear down below the tread bars in about 2,000-2,500 miles (depending on how hard you drive) ... leaving the sides of the tires looking nearly new. Drag race them between 14-18 lbs.. The great thing is that you just spin them for about a second and you feel them pull down hard to the track surface. You don't burn up hardly any tread like you would with the Nitto's doing 5-8 second burnouts just to get them to stick good. When the MT's above get worn to the tread bars, though, lookout. Anything LITERALLY over 25 mph and it's like being on ice.

i know a guy that had the MTs on in a 12in snowstorm and said they worked great. I know this tires are sticky but the fact that he was able to driver his DD H/C camaro w/o getting stuck boggled my mind.

Save yourself alot of heartache at the track right now. Get a extra set of take off wheels and put a MT drag radials on them. Use them for going to the track and/or dry days. Save your street tires for the street.

The Nitto's are the best "all-around" drag radial but they will not hook near as consistantly as the MT's and leave you .

The MT's offer the best traction period, but they are absolutely dangerous on anything but a dry road.

The MTs will hook the best but will also last the longest on a street car.
Make sure to keep the speed way down in the rain too.

I think you meant that they don't last very long?

In my experience with both tires, If you run the MT DR's with about 18-20 lbs of air pressure, they will last a little longer than the Nitto's, especially if you go to the track and do 5-8 second burnouts with the Nitto's. If you over-inflate the MT DR's, the center crown will wear down like crazy ... fast!!!

Nitto's if you're dead set on putting some DR's on a DD. But go with MT's if you are doing the weekend swap

I placed MT's on my take-off wheels for the track and the difference is dramatic compared to Nittos. Even after a good burnout, hooking with Nittos requiring easing it out just right or getting wheelspin. With MT's it's a quick burnout, stomp and go. I put my Nittos on for daily driving and will use MT's for track only. Looking at the tread pattern on the MT's tells me they'd be scary in the rain ...

Absolutely agreed that MT's as take-off's for rainy days and for the track if you don't have the flexibility of an extra car. Rainy days, I drive the wife's Trans Am or the Honda so I can keep the MT street radials on my hotrod all the time.

Without an extra car, though, my choice of street tires for a DD would be the GS-D3's. My last set lasted 30,000+ miles, so, with the softer 300 compound, that was good tread life, IMHO. Wet or dry, on the street, they stick better than any street tire I've had ... been through a lot of them. Talking to several folks who have ran on them at the track, if you just spin them to get the road grit off, they stick very well. As with any street tire, though, just don't overheat them.
