Are there any rear sizes out there that wouldnt require any grinding? If not whats the best possible wheel/tire size and backspacing for a 01 Trans Am for fitment?

no grinding needed for me. i run 15X10 weld draglite XP's. i believe the backspacing is like 5.5"-6.5". i can't remember which? anyway, i used either a 7/32" or a 1/4" wheel spacer and they fit. i can't remember which wheel spacer size either? i must be gettin old, lol. anyway here is a pic of them mounted up with the BFG drag radials. gonna be losin these POS tires next week and gettin some slicks. i think that prostars are built to the same specs as draglites since they are both weld drag wheels.

I can send you a pic of my 15x10s with 6.5" backspacing. They look perfect on a T/A. Be prepared to spend some time with a grinder to get them to fit though. Weld doesn't make the XP's anymore, and the guys who do have them usually won't part with them.

Where is the grinding necessary? On the acutal rim or the caliper?

Not exactly sure. Probably because of low sales on them.

The caliper is what you'll need to grind down some. It'll eventually look similar to this when enough material is removed:

No. I'm not sure if they made the XPs in 16x10s or not. I can only remember seeing 16x8s. It'd be nice if they made them in something larger than 15"s, or at least made changes where the 15"s would clear our calipers without grinding on them.
