Now, my brother has the 315 BFG G-Force KD's on his 17x9.5" Z06 wheels and they feel pretty much normal. he runs 35psi in the KD's.

i'd just run stock size up front, 275/40/17 and whatever you feel comfortable putting on the rear,
I actually decided on 17x10 Smoothie II's...and no they don't make a 9 or 9.5"...only 8 or 10, and 8 is way too small for me.

So what would be best then given a 10" wheel on the front?

Not running stock width wheels. These are 10" wide.

EDIT: I just looked on DTD and it appears there is no NT555 in that size...and it shows the widest for a 17" wheel is a 285? Say it ain't so

Any comments on that last sentence? Do they really ride much rougher than street tires?
I had 275/40 17 R DRs on 17x9 ZR1s on the back, and 275/40 17 R2s on the same wheels on the front. The R2 sidewall is substantially stiffer than the DR!! To the point where it would probably kill your launch at a drag strip as compared to the DR. It also was very "darty" or nervous on the street, (the steering, that is) but this could have been my radical alignment settings and too high tire pressures. In any case, either of these become totally useless in air temps of <45-50 degrees, unless MUCHO heat is built up in them, and even then, if it gets to <30 degrees the tire temp does not matter any more, there is NO grip to be had!!! I mention this since you live where it can get cold out, unlike all the south Texans who come on here and say, "I have no problem with Nitto DRs, they grip like top fuel tires for me!", well no **** sherlock, you're driving them around in 60-110 degree weather!!!!!!

Good point on the weather. In Cleveland below 55 degrees, the Nittos are useless. Spin city through the first 3 gears. And yes the sidewall is stiffer on the RII but awesome at autox. Unless you have the budget for 8 tires and rims ( as most of us don't ) it's always a compromise.

your post remided me of this thread on our auto-x site,
http://www.autocross.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=1417
check out the amount of tires and wheels this member has accumulated.

btw,
you can find deals on factory/oem repros for dirt cheap if you just look around.
I bought my 555RII's with AFS ZR1's for $830 shipped, had one auto-x seesion on them.
I then found a pair of silver ZR1's that matched my first set for $50, and a pair of Chrome ZR1's with nearly new tires on them for $200. and then I picked up a pair of Nitto 555's for $160 which were slightly used but looked very very new.
Now I am in the process of trying to find a pair of silver ZR1's to replace the chrome ones as I am not too fond of really shiney wheels.

Also, the RII's suck in the cold as well (just like the DR's I assume), very slick when they are cold, but after a few miles they feel normal.

I got the NT555's to match the 555r's out back and they look great together. The NT's are actually wider than the 555r's, but the R's do run a little narrower. Off hand do you guys know if you can plug a nitto 555r safely? If you get a nail, or screw in it . ....

I had it done a couple of years ago but never liked how it felt afterward, ended up getting rid of the set ( only one had the flat but they need to wear evenly ).

Don't know about how safe it was, but did a plug/patch on one a couple of years ago. Never felt too secure about hitting 113+ through the traps after that.

I get mine patched. I think I have 3 of them patched so far with one having 2 patches in it. they seem like magnets for sharp metal objects.

I run Nitto 555rII's all around, pulled 1.004g on the skid pad with my suspension setup. They're actually less of a rough ride than my Firestone Firehawk radials, most likely because of the softer tread... 6k on them and still plenty of tread left.
