At work and don't have time to read all the posts...if I do this on 02 T/A wheels is that a good start for painting them? Was thinking about a media blast but this seems like it could save me a few coins.

Yeah, got to thinking and this is just stripping the clear and won't do anything on platting. Now to find out if blazing is an option...

Default WS6 Wheels

This may be a dumb question, but do I need to have the tires off to do the stripping?

It will stain the tire like brownish. I did it last year on shitty tires and it stained a little

Thanks guys. Going to Autozone tomorrow. I'll just try to tape off the tires. I don't really want to break them down and re-balance $$$.

Going to do this Saturday, spray or liquid stripper best? Have a pressure washer, just wanting to do it quickly so I can mount new tires after.

Can someone please post a picture of what stripper to use? I used these 3 and not one of them worked. Tired of wasting money!

The last picture you posted is what I've used on 3 different sets. Worked fine.

I used the TAL-STRIP that Advanced Auto Parts sells, worked great. I did it with tires on without issue. I sanded every wheel starting at 300 grit and up until polished. Some had curb rash and in those areas I went as low as 100 grit...I've probably got a total of 10 hours into freaking polishing.

Aircraft always did the job for me. Have you thought about trying Permatex gasket remover?

Anyone have any feedback on how they look a few weeks after removing the clear and polishing? I dd my 01 trans am and I'm not afraid of a little work but at the same time I don't want to have to buff the wheels once a week.

That being said, has anyone discovered a good clear and/or clear coat process that works well for re-clearing once they're all polished up? I know a lot of clear coats won't stick to a mirror finish.

I have a set of the factory silver painted ZR1's that need to be refinished. I hear it's a nightmare to try and do this to these wheels, yet some say it can be done and has been done. I think i may strip them and repaint them though.
