For all you guys running big rims, how do they hold up over time? You know, like with rough roads and pot holes. Do they bend, crack, etc...?
Do you have to slow down all the time?

I have 19x9.5 wheels on all four corners and run 275/30/19 tires. The positive side is they look great and set off the car really well. Downside is they are heavy. Each rim is close to 40 lbs if I remember correctly and with such a small sidewall, you will have trouble hooking up. With that said, I don't race the car, I enjoy driving it and looking at it and the looks I get from people as I drive by.

19" tires are quite expensive as well. Know that before hand that you are looking at $250+ per tire.

Well anything over 18's are gonna do just that. Not many of us here would reccommend anything over 18's, so yeah, your gonna get negative feedback. Your 16 and still in that pimping stage and Im sure we all have been there, but you must realize us "old heads" are here for performance reasons, not here for the most pimped out F-body. Im not trying to hate the player or the game or anything but thats just the way us old farts think about big bling, bling rims. Im 23 BTW!

ok well im confused. I agree on the whole performance thing you cant be rollin around on 20's and expect to race. But then why are the corvettes runnin 19's and possibly 20's in the rear (C6 ZO6)? How are they able still perform?

I'm assuming that the guys that say the big rims can't perform are mainly drag racers. For those who are more into corner carving, do big rims really hurt the performance, such as lap times?

The C6 Z06 isn't really a drag racing car, but the big tires should be good for braking and cornering.

true, but im talkin like from a stoplight, ya know, street racing. I don't understand how these vettes can have so much hp and such big rims, they have to be able to perform. If thats the case than 19's shouldnt be a problem on F-Body's. Im guessin vettes have somethin else about them that I am not covering

Low profile tires = tons of wheel spin when you mash the gas. That's why there was a C5 Z06 at the strip turning 13.4's because he didn't know how to drive and spun like crazy off the line. There's a fine balance between traction and going up in smoke. The shorter the sidewall, the less chance of hooking up on a hard launch. Why do you think most all drag cars run 15" rims and slicks? Because that's what works. Big wheels and tires are just the latest trend and it looks good so GM and others are putting them on their vehicles to help them sell.

Well, there certainly has been a lot of frenzy over this. "IMO" as everyone else has said, I think that the wheels would be just too big to fit as far as 20's go. The 19's i've seen in this post look fine, if that's the look you're going for...just keep in mind like someone said before...with rims that big, the tires get more expensive. I just bought some 18's, i like them, but i hate the tires that the guy set me up with. The sidewall on it is far to small and honestly i think it looks stupid from certain angles. Here is a performance video for your entertainment purposes only, with my new wheels & tires. click here. Tires i would have liked on them, i found out, are about $280 a tire (goodyear). So even tho a lot of negative feedback has thrown itself at you, don't be afraid to research more into the look you are trying to get, cause overall, your satisfaction is what counts.

The short sidewall can reduce traction from a standstill, but traction can be regained throught larger contact patches (wider tires) and through better compounds. The C6 Z06 aint running on hard compound tires I can guarantee you. It has the GY Supercar tires in 325/30/19 on 12x19 rims.

I'm guessing ProjectKronos has some cheap, hard compound tires and that's why his traction is so bad. Judging from the videos, his tires are pretty skinny as well. So that's a double whammy.

I bet if you had some 295-315 wide rears and a good quality tire like the Perelli P Zero or something similar you would be getting a lot more grip.

Also, weight is a big factor. The heavier your car the more wheel spin you'll get.

You got Air Ride on that puppy? Looks like you're sitting on the front tires. I'm considering air for my car. I couldn't get away with sidewalls that short here in MI. Freaking potholes everywhere!

alright well then if I decide to stay with 18's in the rear also, would you guys recomend a 40 series tire for better hook? I don't plan on lowering the car

If you wanted a 35 series to maintain the stock diameter such as these
285/35ZR18 or
305/35ZR18
Nitto makes them in their 555RII autocross competition tire. Similar compound as thier drag radial, but with a stiffer sidewall. These have serious grip.
