Default Any weight difference between 275's and 255's?

I'm buying another set of wheels and tires because the DR's cost too much to drive every day with them. I'm buying 4 new ones, not just 2, and was thinking of putting a smaller tire on the front. Nitto makes a 255/40/17 and a 245/45/17. I'm thinking the 255's. Is there any kind of noticeable weight difference between a 275 tire and a 255? I'm not going with the skinnies in front and the 15X8's or 10's in back yet because this is my everyday driver, and I don't want to put a new rearend in it yet. I will have 275's on all four for daily driving, and 315's in back and 245's/255's in front for race days.

To answer your question, the bigger the tire the more it weighs, but I don't think the difference between 275's and 255's is going to be enough to make a noticable difference.
Now my opinion: Even if it is your daily driver, since you're going to have an entirely different set of wheels for the street and track, you might as well have a good track only set. Get what ever size for the rear with drag radials and skinnies in front. Personally, I'd go 15x10 & 15x4 prostars with some drag radials. Just my .02.

But wouldn't 15X10's with sticky tires tear up my rear end and tranny. Thats what I'm worried about. When I get something else to drive, then I won't care if I tear it up, but I don't want to break anything yet.

Could hurt the stock 10 bolt/driveshaft/trans mounts etc but at the same time its all in how you launch and how everythings setup.

Some people have gone numerous launches off the stock setup with little to no problems, yet others rip it out their first time at the track with a good catch. Its just in how lucky you are

As for your original question, there isnt much of a difference weight wise as far as unmounted 255s vs 275s. Its probably 1 pound if that, once you figure in all 4 tires. It also depends on what 2 types of tires you're comparing being one might be a 255/60 and the others a 275/35 etc. If both are similar aspect ratio's, and the same overall diameter for the wheel your weight difference is going to be almost non-existant IMO.
