Default Pick my next Tires.

Well, I have an 02 t/a with firehawk rims that is gonna need new tires. Its got some boltons and most of the suspension done. I am a little ticked that whenever I do a launch from a stop, i am all over the place. No traction, lots of spinning, then i rip 2nd and im still all over the place for a while. Have pirelli street tires on now.

I am thinking that I should go with drag radials in the rear. This is mostly a street car for good weather. It wil get some more mods and does see some strip and auto-x.

My concerns at this point:
10 bolt is gonna get killed with drag radials
Occasionally this car might be in the rain, (I have a 2nd car atm but i might have to get rid of it).

Should I get drag radials or street tires? I am likin what i hear about nitto 555rs but what would you say?

IMHO you don't need drag radials. Get yourself a set of Goodyear F1 GS-D3's ... best street tire I have found. Good wear, great traction dry OR wet and they'll last you for awhile.

Yeah I'd say go with the F1 GS-D3's as well. The guy at USA tire in Utica usually has some in stock and you should be fine on those. I really don't remember Roy having too much of an issue with traction when his tires had some tread unless he really dumped it hard.

Me and my buddy have both had no luck hooking a GS D3 id run em as a front tire with a drag radial in back only. The cars were an 00 WS6 with full exaust and 4.10s, absolutely no straightline traction its a joke. Other car was my 95 LT1 full exaust/cold air/programming/3.23 gears it was decent but nothing special in my opinion for off teh line traction.

Mynew 99 SS with a lid and catback does pretty well in straightline traction with the pirelli pzer nero M+S's. Ive always thought pirelle had gone down hill the last few years but these tires are damn good and descently cheaper then comparable tires. D3s are floating close to 200 a peice, whereas these pzero nero's are a tad over 150. Only problem is getting rolling from a dead stop its kinda easy to slip the pirelli, once your rolling you can get on it pretty good and hook in the wet still.

i had those eagles and they hooked decent for have 500 + hp. as far as drag radials for a daily, and maybe seeing rain. you dont have to many options. i have nitto, bfg, and mt drag radials. nittos did the best in the rain for me. the mt drag radials are not good what so ever in anything but dry roads. all drag radials dont last long either. but neither did my d3's

I dunno, I hear those Goodyears don't last long at all. I just bought some KDWS for my stocker wheels, I'll let you guys know how I like em

Oh btw they are only 97 bucks installed WITH roadhazard on costco.com.

Best deal I've found.

You can't go wrong with some BFG Dr's either though, I loved those on these car and play on picking up a set for the track.

I want to be able to launch at like 2-3k and hook. I don't think the street tires will do that for me at least none that I have used yet.

Btw, DetroitMuscle, the tires are on their last days and it still is a little cold out. Its not uncontrollable fishtailing but, I am definentally all over the place in 1st and 2nd gear if I go at it hard and rip the gear.

I have kdws's on my camaro and am not impressed. I am really about performance on this car.

well i have the kDWS's on my 10 spoke chrome SS rims...they are a great all around tire. but on my black Zo6 rims i just got some BFG kDW2's (the new tread design) with a 295 out back and it hooks pretty well on the street! that's with 3.73's and all the other stuff.... i did a pretty damn good launch at woodward about a week ago...so good the cop gave a note that said so! DOH!

Sounds like you want some DRs then. I's suggest either the BFs or Nittos as they last the longest and are acceptable in the rain. I have a set of Nittos sitting at home and once they go on I'll be running DRs year round.

He mentioned auto-x. Don't DR's have a LOT of sidewall flex?

I just looked over his posts and it said nothing regarding auto-x, but if that were the case I dunno what tire would be suitable.

Haven't done any official auto-x yet, but I will wan't to do some this year. Do drag radials handle well? Say 555r's in back, and the street 555s up front?

Not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure they have a lot of sidewall flex.
