I can't spent a lot on tires so I am looking at Toyo Proxes T1-S, Kumho 712s, or HTRZIIs. I'm planning on doing some track events and would like the best tire for that job that will still last a little while.

I had a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's for 3 years and 40k miles. They aren't the best for traction, ride, etc. but they lasted quite a while and I would consider them a good value. Have AVS ES100's now (also cheap) and the treadwear sucks, not to mention I've had to replace 2 already (thank goodness for road hazard warranty's) since they're soft and like to pick up everything in the road - Kumho's were harder.

I don't consider the Toyo tires to be a cheap tire. I would say that is the best performing tire out of the three. I've had the Toyos as my first replacements on my deceased '96 z28 and they were a good tire.

I've only had the Kuhmos up front and so far they have done fine for my taste and wear is okay.

I would say my vote is for the Toyos if you could find them at a good price then the Kuhmos.

Have You Looked At Kumho Ecsta Spt? They Are Pretty Cheap And I Love Them. They Hold The Road Well, Not Noisy And Show Pretty Good Tread Wear. I Got Mine For 111$ Each Plus Shipping, Send Me A Pm, And Ill Tell You Where.

I wasn't even considering the Toyos until I saw this auction. The location of them, Tucker, is on my way home from work. I was going to see if I could pick them up and save shipping.

The Khumos suck IMO. Traction was great for the first 5k miles, but those suckers will not hook(I spin in 2nd at 50mph). They also ride like crap, I've had them balanced 4 times in 15k miles.

If you can save on shipping the Toyos would be worth it. I found another place that had them for $99 each and was $65 shipped to me. Got them for $461 shipped. They just showed up so I haven't gotten them on to try them out. Toyos have always been a highly rated performance tire, they're just hard to find places that carry them. I was going to go with BFG GForce Sports till I found these for about $25 cheaper per tire. The Toyos look badass unmounted...we'll see what they look like and work like in a couple weeks.

I just picked up 4 sumitomo HTRZs 245/50/16s off tirerack for $68 per tire. $313 with shipping. Ive heard alot of bad reviews about these tires , but I like em. They hook good and handle corners great. I think they are a great deal for street tires. I dont drag race so thats just my .02 cents.

For inexpensive performance tires, go with the Fuzion ZRi's; as stated above, made by Bridgestone as a "tuner" performance tire, very similar to Potenza's and Wide Ovals.

Send me a PM and I can make you an excellent deal.

It should be noted that the Toyo T1-S have been discountinued.

I'd look into the Fuzion tires.

I checked Toyo's website before I bought mine and they were still listed and didn't say anything about being discontinued. They do have a new top of the line performance tire though.

I'm thinking about the Kumho ECSTA AST's in 245/50H16's, all the way around.

These are high performance All Season radials. Anyone have any experience with these tires? about $61 per tire from Tire Rack. This is on a daily driver 99 Z ... daily commute 130 miles round trip.

If I were going to go narrower in the fronts, what size would I go to on stock rims?

Thanks

I would get a bfg g force for a cheaper tire....I recently decided to spend just a little more and get bfg kdws...I am quite impressed with them so far.

I did ALOT or research on tires before buying them.

This isn't one of your choices but i have dunlop direzzas and they are pretty nice. good traction, a tiny bit of road noise around 25mph nothing a pair of headers can't cancel out they were about 160ish a piece on tirerack.com

I've been running Sumitomo HTRZII's for 15k miles, now on my h/c car they still do fine. No complaints, 2.1 60' at track is mainly due to slipping clutch

I just put some Sumitomos on the rear Friday. For $88 a piece, I decided to go the cheapest route possible. I've had good luck with the Fuzions though, I still have two on the front ( one of the rear ones got cut last summer so I threw the 315 Sumitomos on there).

Don't get Toyos if you want treadwear. I've had mine for just about 10k miles, and they're GONE.

I've gotten about 13,000 from my toyo T1-S's. They are a great handling tire and hook well but they do wear fast.

I agree with everyone that disagrees with the Kuhmo's. I had the supras on my last car and I quickly realized why they were so cheap in price. And the tread doesnt last for shyt either.
