Default 18x9.5" OEM Vette wheel fitment

I just bought a set of 17x8.5"(front) 18x9.5"(rear) magnesium Corvette wheels. These are the OEM GM wheels that came off a Corvette.

I've talked with two different sellers on ebay about fitment. One said I needed to do the BFH mod. Where do I hammer? Another said I needed to roll the fender lip. I don't think I'll need to do this since the wheel is only 9.5" wide.

Would 275/35/R18 be the right size tire that won't screw up my speedometer?

I was running OEM Y2K's on my 01 Z28 and all i need was some small spacers for the rear. I didn't need to hammer anything. My car was also lowered with the pro-kit so i'm not sure if that made a difference or not. I hope this helps.

You can use the tire calculator to make sure your new wheel/tire combo is the same height as your old one. Then the speedo will be OK:

Even though they don't list the magnesium C5s in the sticky the dimensions on the other C5 wheels give some BFH info:
Z06 Corvette Replicas:

17"x9.5" +50 to +56 mm no problems. 275/40R17.

18"x9.5" +50 to +56 mm 275/35R18 or 285/35R18.

18"x10.5" +50 to +53 mm. Higher than 53 mm will require the BFH mod. 285/35R18s thru 315/30R18. Over 295 may require rolling the fenderlip and will need the BFH.

pretty sure you will need a spacer for the rears

they are not the same offsets as Z06 wheels

i think you need a qtr inch spacer for the rears.

edit.. or maybe it was 3/4inch.. damn. i cant remember.

by the way. you wont need to do the bfh mod imo, thats the reason for the spacers. I think spacers are all that you need.

spacers are needed cause its an offset issue not a width issue (like with 11"s where you need to beat the fender well in to fit the wheel/tire)

I know. He needs to put the spacers on bc the offset is wrong. The offset is too high so it will rub on the inside. If he puts a spacer on, it will push the wheels out. so that they will not rub inside, thus not needing the bfh mod.

I bought a set of 18"x9.5 Chrome C5 rims a year and 1/2 ago. Originally thay came with 265/35/18 tires that didn't look right. I had zero problems with ride height, although I did have the 4x4 look going on. About 6 months later, I lowered the car with DMS springs and Bilstien HD shocks, and replaced the tires with 275/35/18 tires. Now the only time I rub, is under hard acceleration in a turn. The back wheels do it mostly, and judging from the quarter sized piece of undercoating missing, I would say a 1/2 spacer would work to eliminate this problem (for the back). Also there is not a problem with my speedometer after getting the wheels mounted. In fact, EVERY police radar trailer that displays your speed that i've run across displays 1MPH faster than what it says on my gauges.

I'll measure the offset when the wheels get here and keep you posted. If I run a spacer, will the studs be too short?

it would be good to get longer studs IMO, but it will also depend on how wide of a spacer you decide to go.

I just put a set of Y2K thin spokes on my car. I'm running a 275/40/R18 in back. They rubbed a little so I went a head and did the BFH to the inner fender because I was not able to get spacers that weekend and had to drive the car 140 miles. The only place they were rubbing is the small area that sticks out a little on the front of the inner fender at the bottom. They also only rubbed on the driver's side. I'm planning on going with wider wheels in the future also. I am running 255/40/R17 up front and there isn't any areas rubbing. My car has also been lowered 1" and has BMR LCA's so I don't know if that will make a difference. Also my speedometer is off by about 5mph at 65mph. I had 285/40/R17's before. I hope this helps.

do you not have an adj phb? if you dont, thats probably the reason for it only rubbing on one side. If you had an adj phb, it might not have rubbed

The adj panhard bar has been ordered as well as adj torque arm. Just waiting on them to come in and some time away from work to install everything.
