Default Tire Rub

Well I bought some C5 "wagon" wheels, the silver 17"/18" combo for my 99Z28. I am experiencing some inner fender rub in the rear. Everything I have read on this site and others says I shouldn't be experiencing any problems. What is the best way to take care of this situation? This car is about to be my daily driver, and in a few months I'll be taking a long road trip down to Florida. So the last thing I want is for my tire(s) to explode when I hit a bump on the interstate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to do the BFH mod

as in Big Farkin Hammer? Will I hurt anything by knocking the fender in? Is there a particular place I should be hitting away? I don't want to break anything

Might also want to consider getting an adj. panhard bar to center the rear better

What is a panhard bar? And why would my seat have anything to do with a hammer and my inner fender?

the panhard bar is the long straight bar that runs across the back of the rear end at a bit of a slant. It's supposed to keep the rear end centered under the car. The stock unit doesn't do a very good job of that.

A place that generally needs the tender minstrations of your BFH is at, looking at the driver's side inside the fender, at 9 o'clock - and that happens to be about where the rear seat lock mechanism is attached. If you keep it up and locked it'll not get moved out of alignment. I know that at least one guy reported his bad experience with that.

ls2.com has an excellent writeup of the BFH mod, with pictures:

My rubbing is evident from my left rear wheel when I take a right turn at speed. I hear sort of a raspy scraping sound from the wheelwell.

Is the simple fix for this just to keep nudging the rear toward the driver's side with the adjustable panhard until the rub disappears? Or might that result in a misaligned center section?

The wagon wheel rear offset is very big and tucks the wheel into the wheel well. Either a small spacer 1/4" max on stock lug studs, and or BHF, where you can see the actual rub marks in the wheel well.

I have the same wheels and had the same problem. Mine would rub when i took fast turns. I first put on a spacer, then got out the hammer. Now that i have an adj panhard bar its not an issue. And if you go the spacer route you will need longer wheel studs.
