Default If you had to choose...

a wheel/tire combo for a 500+ rwhp daily driver that sees rain (read: no DR's) would you go with 18x10.5's with a 295 KDW2/GS-D3 or would you go for 315's on there with some other brand of tire? My predicament is that I want Z06 motorsports in 18x10.5's with 315's on the rear but the KDW2's and GS-D3's don't come in that size I wouldn't mind going with 17's but as far as I know the Z06 motorsports don't come in anything wider than 9.5 on a 17" wheel. I want 315's dammit! I'm just thinking 295's wouldn't look as great.... Anyway, please provide as much input as possible, this is really racking my brain

I'll probably keep asking until I get enough of the information that I need. Isn't that what this board is for? I'm sorry that I don't give up that easily on a topic that I still need addressed.

Oh, without a doubt. But I don't want to go a certain route just because it's cheaper. I'm thinking more and more that I'll be going with the 17x9.5's and send the rears off to have them widened to 11" (however much that costs). That will be the best of both worlds, I will have my 315's and the z06's and I should be good to go.

More and more I'm leaning toward 17's. They will just be overall better.

How can you run a street tire with 500rwhp? I wouldn't run a street tire in the back if you paid me, and I only have boltons. Although, I have 4.10's, traction is just rediculous with street tires.

Why not run a 305-35-18 nitto drag radial. They're fine in the rain, until they're bald. They're also wider then a 315-35-17 nitto.

It's a daily driver that sees rain so it needs street tires. DR's are certainly not fine in the rain, especially with these power levels. I'm not the type of guy that likes to take chances like that, I like to play it as safe as possible when it's something so minor that can mean the difference between life and death.

My car is a daily driver, and I have run 305-35-18, and 275-40-17 nitto drag radials. I've never had a problem in the rain, unless you wear them till their bald. What does it matter how much rwhp you have, when driving in the rain? Who goes around flooring these cars in the rain? It doesn't matter what kind of tire you have, that's just stupid.

You can't be serious. Of course it matters what tire you have otherwise there would be no competition amongst tire companies, and DR's are inherently much worse in the rain due to their tread design.

I would stick with the 17's for a DD. The 18's dont get that much better cornering performance and to top it off the sidewalls are smaller and stiffer than it will be on 17's. It might be a small difference but with the power I would keep as much sidewall as you can, otherwise you will be spinning at every stop....exaggerated but you get the idea. My GSD3's in 315 are great for alll around driving. Clearly still a street tire but like your car mine sees rain also. In the rain, these tires are one of the best I have driven on.

I hope you're not expecting to hook a street tire with over 500whp haha

I can still spin a 28inch 325 DR from a 50 punch with a little over 500

Hopefully this will be just to get you places?

Street tires are going to have you somewhat safe in the rain... but they'll be seriously dangerous in the dry at almost any reasonable speed with that much power. Its all give and take. I'd go with 305 Nitto DRs if I were you and drive very carefully in the rain. At least then you'll be able to enjoy it a bit in the dry. With street tires you're going to blow them away in dry weather and with that much power the smallest slip up with a little too much gas or clutch and you're going to be in serious trouble there as well.

Yea, these are the tires I will be driving around on a couple times a week - certainly not track tires.
