Well i had a slow leak on 2 tires on the Z/28, took it to the shop to get them fixed. They pulled one tire and refused to remount it because it had some damage on the inside (likely to blow out). I took their word for it because i did see it. I had to buy a tire on the spot so i went with the cheapest they had. A kumho ecsta and i've seen them around quite a bit. They gave me it for 70ish because my dad was in with me and got all new tires.

My car needs new tires very soon. Should i just put the ecsta's all the way around? The Z is more or less my daily driver. 16 inch chrome wheels and 245 tire. Having one in back seemed to hook up a bit better when i punched it around the turns, seemed to not fishtail like it did with my kdws. I noticed that when i spun the ecsta, it made a louder chirp than anyhtign ive driven, could be just cuz its new? Should igo ecstas all the way around or throw 2 up front and try something else in back?

 

Don't mix and match tires it could makes the car less dependable when it comes to spirited track/street driving (unless you know what you are doing).

I had Kumho Ecsta Supra's for a while and they worked well in the rainy season in Texas. The roads are also REALLY oily because it only rains for ~3 months a year.

What type of Kumho are you talking about there are a lot of different Ecsta's. I liked the Supra's they were cheap and are around the best wet weather traction (anti-hydroplaning) that you can get for the price and the dry weather performance.

The wear was about normal for a car with an aggressive alignment. I would by them again.

Oh yeah there was a bit of road noise with them, but that is what you get with 11 inch wide square tires.

ya kumho's are cheap i had them on my 4 banger car they are good stuff... im thinking yes for my firebird i hope they hook up with the mods below

 

Go with them dude, just remember though that with the mods you have on your car the 711's are going to be the weak link.

Yeah looking at it again they are definately going to be a seriously weak link on the car. They just don't measure up to the fact you have almost top of the line suspension parts minus the 1LE bars. I went with Hotchkis bars and springs and my '99 Z28 handled better than my 2001 Corvette.

Oh wait this is for you Z28 nevermind. I was looking at the WS6, let the Z28 stay with the 711's then.

 

Ecsta Whats? There are many different types . . . . I have the Ecsta MX's pretty decent tire for the money, a tad heavy and hard.

 

I have the Ecsta 712s(98w) 274/45/zr17s on 17 by 9.5" zo6 black wheels and they are nice for me here in upstate,ny where potholes are every 10ft.Was gonna do 18" rears but dont know if i want to take the chance of bending wheels.They also work well in the rain.Hope this helps

 

I have used the kuhmo mx for about 1000mi now and they work good on my car in
275 and 285 x17 sizes.With a treadwear rating of only 220 I would'nt call them hard by any means.They hook about like my 275x60x15 nitto drag radials according to a g-tech.Bastards really like to follow road grooves though and are noisey on concrete roads.

 

I managed an 11.35 @130 on my 295/35/18 Kumho MX's, the 60' was 1.89 though.

 

I had Kumho 712s. Excellent tire in the rain, good treadwear. Shitty dry traction though. In cooler temps flooring the car at 30 mph would cause horrible fishtailing with the stock converter and 3.23s.
