Default widest tire??

Whats the widest tire I can go with on 17" stock SS rims? It currently has 275/40s all around. I'd like to go with at least 295s or wider if possible..

Thanks

The height of the rim has nothing to do with the width tire that can be put on it. How wide is the rim?

I have 285/40-17's on a factory 9 in. wide wheel. They don't bulge hardly at all. (They're also Goodyear F1 GS D3's which run a little wider than most)

Yes the stock rim is 9" wide, you can sneak 285s on but I wouldn't myself as you seem to up alot of cost for a little more tire plus the choices of tires goes down a bit.

Sticking with 275/40R17 is probbly your best bet honestly.

Stock is 9", aftermarket are 9.5. Look for the GM stamp.

Note also that the real Corvette ZR1 wheels were 9.5" wide, which might help explain why there are some 9.5" versions running around out there.

my bro has 275s on 17x8 wheels, they are Wide Ovals. however wider is not always better, i would suggest getting some 275 Mickey Thompsons for the back.

If you wanna go wider, you need a bigger wheel. Since you have a 99, and have stock SS wheels, I am assuming they are ZR1 style. As mentioned already correctly, those are 9" wide, not 9.5". Anyhow...since you have ZR1 style wheels, just buy two 11s for the back and slap on some 315's and you're good to go. Use the other two wheels as back up or something
