Default Polishing aluminum wheels - Torq Thrust

I read on this forum that you should use a facer buff to polish the wheels, but when I called Elkay, the manufacturer, they said that they sell professional detailers 10 times as many mushroom buffs as facer buffs, and they insisted that the mushroom buff was better for the job. Any comments?

What was your process? Did you use the scumm pad first then the other mushroom pad? What kind of polish did you use? Please post up your process, and tools used.

That doesn't look bad at all. I still like to do most of my work by hand though. People may think I'm crazy but my wheels always looked great. Even a set of used wheels I got looked better than the brand new ones I got for the rear. Did you use a compund or a polish?

I first clean the wheel with a cleaner, then do the corners with a cone shaped felt bob, and then use the Mother's Power Ball with regular Mother's polish. I then do it again by hand with the Mother's Billet polish (which is much more expensive), but don't need much for the final polish.

If I have any pitting, I use the super-fine sandpaper Micro-Surface brand from 1800, 2400, 3600, 4000, and then 6000 in that order, depending on how deep the pits are.

I'm thinking of going to the Enkay Aluminum polishing kit. The photo is of the wheel when it was new, and I'm determined to get it back to looking like that.

I refuse to go to Zoot coat as it turns yellow. When I'm done polishing, I'll use the American Racing Wheel wax.

I've never heard of such a thing...is it carried at parts stores?
