Default new studs for skinnies?

hey guys, sorry for another skinny what to do post, but search is down for me again.just got a set of jegs sportstar skinnies. i just put new pads and drilled/slotted rotors on about 2 months ago. no way the skinnies will fit without spacer. barely fit with a 5/16 spacer but, they do clear. what would be my best option

1) run the 5/16 spacer with the stock acorn lugs. they grab a few threads but....

2) buy the shank style acorn lugnuts w/longer studs and run the 5/16 spacer

3) grind the **** out of the caliper and run no spacer (if possible)

4) grind the caliper some and run a thinner spacer?

anyone else run into same problem? what way did you decide to? any tips, info would be great.

I dont like the idea of grinding the fronts. Less pad makes for hotter breaks which can lead to either cracking (really bad) or fade. I run a 5/16 spacer with a longer stud. If you need studs, I have an extra set of ARP 12mm x 1.5 (our size) but are the correct length for weld type rims in the front. They're brand new, i'll ship em out to you for 20 bucks.

good luck either way.

get the ARP ones that are 3.25" long and call it a day, my buddy snapped off 3 studs on his front skinnies while we were driving down the road, felt like a flat tire. Not worth risking it on the stock studs IMO.

but thinking about it, I guess they won't fit cause nuts will stuck on the stud long before securing the ZR-1...

i dont think you can get the brakes hot enough to crack them , if you get to that point your driving way too hard with skinny tires up front to begin with

you need open ended lugs with extended studs

i absolutely loathe the idea of having to grind on the calipers to get a wheel to fit, so my vote is to get longer studs and use the spacer.

Please someone explain what is "shank" and what is "acorn" lug nut?
Is that correct that for "ZR1-style" I need acorn, and for Weld Pro stars I need "shank"?

the shank goes inside the wheel (weld) the acorn is the normal lug you find on corvette's shanks and acorns come opened ended and closed for long studs or reg length .....you can get slightly longer studs up front and a spacer and you will be fine no grinding needed
