Which Wheel Spacers are safe? Hub Centric??
The rims on my g/f's Firebird were already close to the calipers as it was. I wanted to paint them so I grinded them down a little to clear the paint. I took off quite a bit but the paint shop must have put ten coats on because it is still too thick. I need very thin, like 4mm, wheel spacers. I went to a local place and they had "universal spacers" for $10/ea. I did not buy them because there was way too much material missing from them because they are universal. That and they were cast aluminum and wouldn't even lay flat on the counter. He said they would flatten out once I torqued them down but that is just a little hairy for me. He said most cars would ride rougher and he would spend the extra money and order the better ones. I agree. I did a search and people say they are dangerous but what about the good ones like some billet aluminum that are made for our bolt-pattern and not missing 75% of the materal? Anyone got a link I could go to?
I found this link but these are wheel adapters right? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...1226&rd=1&rd=1
I just want 1/4" wheel spacers to use with 1/4" longer wheel studs.

It's very important that the adapter (or spacer) is hubcentric. You don't want to simply sandwich it between the rim and the axle.... that's asking for trouble....
See the hubcentric lip on my adapter ? The rim is held centric by this lip, without the lip the load is on the studs causing them to break eventually.... many guys I've talked to have different opinions, many think the lug or stud centric stuff is good enough.... that's fine.... I just hope I'm not driving behind one of them when a wheel comes off the car.....
I bought these at www.powertech.de (site is in German only) - they make these in aluminum and/or steel.... mine are steel....
I bought another set from "completevalue" on fleebay.... quality is good but they're aluminum ... I replaced the studs with ARP stuff.... "only the best"

Since '05 I have 17x11 ZR1 rims with 315-35 tires and 3/4" spacers..... the tires rub with a 1" spacer ....no spacers on the front with ZR1 rims and 275-40 tires ..
I also run spacers on my Corvette (2" spacer with 295-50-15 tires) ... never had a problem
