Default Bigger Tires on 02 -2500

Stock tires are 245/75/16. Want to go to 235/85/16.

Do I need to buy a programmer or will it be okay without. GM tells me they have no patch codes for the 3/4 tons. I understand it could affect ABS and shift points as well as speedo of course.

I am thinking this slight change in OD wont have much effect on anything.

Use the calculators from this website to find out exactly how much of a difference the tire size change made on your speedo and odo. Use the last two calculators on the page.

http://www.superford.org/garage/calculators/

According to those calculators,

Old tire diameter: 30.46 inches
New tire diameter: 31.72 inches

With the new tires when your speedo reads:

40 you are actually going 41.65
65 you are actually going 67.68
100 you are actually going 104.13
150 you are actually going 156.2
275 you are actually going 286.37

Hope that helped!

Thanks BigBlack.

Do I need to worry about any impact it will have on the ABS.

u can go back to the dealer and tell them to adjust ur truck to the tire size 265/75x16... it has about the same diameter as the size u picked... just remember, ur truck wasn't designed to work with those tall, skinny tires, ur handling will suffer...
