Default heating drag radials

I need some help guys.I'm getting a set of drag radials.Do you have to heat them up before you race.I've heard conflicting stories. Some guy runnin slicks at the strip told me you don't have to heat up drag radials. He said you only heat up slicks

Please advise.

You definitely should heat up the drag radials, although they don't need to be spun as long as slicks though. A good 5-10 second burnout is more than enough. That's all I used to do when I ran BFG DRs.

With a pure slick though, they need a nice smokey burnout to make the rubber softer. If you ever feel a cold slick it's not really super sticky. A good 10-15 second burnout is needed with them.

With a regular radial, you don't need to heat them up at all, they won't get any softer, but you should still do a quick 5 second burnout just to clean them off if there is any dirt on them from the staging lanes, plus to make sure you get any water off them before going up to the starting line.

Thanks Patman,
I noticed the BFG DRs cost a little more than the Nittos. Are the BFGs a little better do you think?

The BFGs definitely will give you better 60fts at the track, but for street driving, the Nittos last much longer and are safer in the rain.

actually, if you do a nice 2 minute burnout on regular radials, they will get nice and hot and sticky

Maybe, but you still won't do better than a 1.9x 60'.

Patman is like Bo. He knows oils, tires, MAF, etc. "Patman Knows".

You can do a bit better than a 1.9X on DRs. I have a buddy that has cut 1.90x's on pure street tires. If you heat up the DRs enough they have 1.7x's in them. I would not reccomend this on a stock rear, but it can be done.

Nick, I think he meant you can't do much better than 1.9 on street radials. That's pretty much true, it's very rare to see someone cut a 1.89 or better on regular radials. It's not impossible, but definitely not something that happens every day.
