widest tire on 16x8 wheels?

widest tire on 16x8 wheels? MY buddy tells me he fit a 275 tire on his 8" inch rims when he had em, but that seems way to big to me. I've fit 255's before, but they kinda bulged a tad. So would 275's fit on my 16x8 wheels? And what size sidewall would they be...

i have 265x50x16 on stock TA rims i use for autox. theyre Kumho 710s, a race tire with extremely stiff sidewalls. they do fit, many people have used them before. its not a perfect fit though, they do bulge. id imagine with a softer street sidewall, it would be more noticable. id say 255s should be fine. youd probably get the same contact patch with 255s as you would 265s because they dont fit as well.
