Default what tires fit a 17x9.5 wheel?

What are the differences between a 245 tire and 275?

The 275 is 30mm wider.

ok, well i'm trying to get an idea of the cost of new tires and want to know what size tire to look for. I have a 2000 SS with the ZR-1 style chrome rims which i believe are 17x 9.5. So will either the 245 or 275 fit this wheel?

if your really curious there is a sticky at the top of this Wheels & Tires section, that will explain everything you'll want or need to know. Other than cost.

I'd run a 275 with that wheel. Also, if you're looking for cheap but pretty good tires give the Summitomo HTR's a try. I'm pretty impressed with mine.

Sorry but i didnt realy understand the sticky at the top of the page. Im looking at discounttiredirect.com and when i select the type of wheel i have it says the 275/40 is the most common fittment and below it under "plus zero" it has a 245/45 size listed. So a 245 size would fit this rim? also would the 245 not have as good handling as the 275? I don't really run my car very hard, i just need some new cheap tires to fit that will fit on my ZR-1 rims becuz im tired of driving on 16" salad shooters.

Call the Tirerack and talk to Rudy. He took the time to answer all my questions and after getting the specs for my wheels told me exactly what size tires would fit my car. Real good guy, got my business!

Just follow the advice. A 275/40ZR17 is your ABSOLUTE BEST choice of tire.

Now you know your size, find a tire that fits your budget.

welp, im thinking about going with Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105 with a Z speed rating and 400 treadlife for 114 or Falken Ziex ZE-512 with a W speed rating and 360 treadlife for 105. Any suggestions? Also for anyone that works at tire places, how often do the prices change for tires?

I run a 285/17/40 in the rear. Fits fine..wouldn't go any larger though.
