mounting tires on new wheels

how easy is it to scratch chrome wheels when mounting new tires on them, I've heard horror stories of some places chewing the **** out of chrome when mounting lower profile tires, granted mine are only 17x9 and alot of vehicles on the road today have 18+. should I be over cautious or am I just paranoid?

I'm in the market to buy new tires for my new chrome c6's
thinking of BFG's

i mount tires all day long and have never scratched a chrome wheel when mounting or dismounting. polished wheels are the only whens that worry me and i never have any problems with those either. just make sure the duckhead is clean of any thing you would think would cause harm. i use a filer to smooth it out before starting on any kind of expensive rims
