Default Drag strip worthy tires?

Alright, I've got a pair of Sumitomo HTR40Z P275/40ZR17 on the rear, do you think that they would be good on the track?
I've heard not to go through the water box with these tires, what do you think? And also should I lower the tire pressure and to what PSI?
thanks for your feedback.

i would say shure you can go to the track with them just don't expect them to give you great times. I think my 275 fuzions grip better in the holeshot then my 315 sumitomo's

Get some drag radials if you want some good 60 ft times. You don't need a huge burnout with street tires. Drive around the water box and spin them just enough to get a little smoke (basically just enough to clean the debris off) and head for the lights

roll through the water box and spin the tires after the box to get the water off. nitto's extreme 555's are great track and street tires, and dont have the wear of drag radials.

get a set of ET Streets or ET Drags and launch like hell if you have a rear end that can handle it.

I can't even do 3/4 throttle and not spin on Sumi's.

I've got the 3.23 rear end in it.
so what do you think with the air pressure?
I think right now they are at 40-44 PSI!

18-25 is what i would start with experiment but you'll have to fill them back up after obviously. i usually go to the track with my fuzions on the rear and go around the box and back into it lightem up till i feel a little bite and let off and you hear that nice chirp as they grab on the sticky pavement.

Exactly the WRONG thing to do on street tires! Then you track the water right up to the line and sit there dripping. Believe me they guy running behind you is pissed if he has a powerful car!
Like stated above, on street tires STAY OUT OF THE WATER and just turn 'em over enough to clean them.
