Exclamation which DR do you like?

it's finally time for some DR's again... i have used the ET street before and liked it pretty good... used the nitto 555r and it was ok, but really couldnt compare traction to the ET street... im tryin to decide if i should go with the 26x10.5-16 ET street

or the P255/50R16 ET street radial

please help and put any input that you have

thanks

i will have these tires on a separate set of wheels anyway... so there will be very little travel time on these tires... still think i should go radial??

I don't know if i'd consider the ET street really a "drag radial." I'd stick with the ET street radials...there's plenty of guys on here yanking the front end off the ground with them.

Thanks for asking this question greyghost4x4. I,m getting ready for new tires also. I,ve been running Hoosier QTP and they have worked well. I am leaning toward the MT Radial. I just dont know how consistant they are. Do the ET Streets need tubes? I'll watch your post to help me decide also.

I've ran the ET streets, they hooked great, but they are a cheater slick, so no sidewall, s it drifted when driving a bit, so next tire i'm going with the radial for sure, heard they are the better than the ET streets

The best bang for the buck is the M/T ET radial in the 255 50 R16s on stock 16x8s...For a drag tire taller is better than wider...I was 1.55 60's with them...They ride nice to and from the track and you don't have the worry of mixing bias and radials like you'd get with the ET streets...The 315s on 17s look nice, but those little 255 16s will out hook them all day long...Its the side wall that makes the difference...You need a good front to back contact patch, not just side to side...

i know they wont last as long as the nittos 555rs, but on the mt et street radials will can i expect, since track is 50+ miles away plus daily driven.

idont mind getting new tires every summer but will they hold up at least that long

I love my 255/50/16 MT DRs. I've gotten better 60's and much better mph than i did with 17" ET Streets. Not to mention they feel much much more stable on the second half of the track.

I've had both tires in the same size, and the radials hooked better

Manual cars run better with bias ply tires, drag radials work better with autos.

I would get a Hoosier QTP Dot drag tire, it is better than the ET Street and is street legal, but is built like a slick tire. They also make a 16" size.

radials are the hot ticket right now. modern compound and sidewall design has them working nearly the same as many of the popular slicks that are available. a radial tire will also produce better trap speeds because it has a harder rolling face, so even if it is equal the first half of the track it wins by being much better the second half of the track.
right now radial DOTs and radial slicks are the hot ticket for nhra stock racers. people are dropping a full tenth or more just by changing tires.
