Default Still confused

I bought some c5 wagon wheels, and I am going to put tires on them sometime soon. They are staggered 17x8.5, and 18x9.5. I read the sticky about tire widths, but could I run a a 295/35/18 and a 275/40/17 for my setup. I want a really wide tire out back. would this be safe, or am I stuck going 285s out back and 255s up front?

What is the widest 295 brand? Would the Eagle GS-D3s be the widest or BFGs?

Go 275 (fits best) or 285 (if you can) out back on your 18x9.5's. If you want to go wider you'll need a wider rim.

BFGs are normally wider

295's do not fit 9.5" wide wheels.

A 275/35ZR18 is your best bet. A 285/35ZR18 would work if you have to have that extra 10 mm . . .

275's do not fit 8.5" wide wheels . . .

So a 245/45ZR17 is best, but you could go up to a 255/45ZR17.

Don't be reckless and force oversized tires onto too small of a wheel.

You seem to really want the big meats in the back. Why not just save some money and get 17x11 or 17x10.5? I run 17x11s and I fit 315s and even 335 bfgs. But you do not want a banned out tire on a narrow rim. Not only do you lose power/performance, but it is unsafe.

^^ Thats what I'm thinking too. You have already been told 285 is the biggest, so whats so confusing. Just get wheels that are wide enough to fit the bigger tires. There is no point in throwing out safetly just to get the look of a wider tire.

I am not confused anymore, I was just asking a simple question. I already have the wheels because they were a steal of a sale. There would be no point to buy another set when I already have these...I am just gonna try 285s and go smaller if those don't work...I test fitted the rims last night with the shot 275s that are on them now, and the 275 looks decent, i don't think an extra 10mm will hurt...As for safety, I understand if I cannot run a 295, I was just curious if anyone was...A 295 on a 9.5 wasn't as dumb as a question as a 315 on a 9.5. I have seen that done, it looks like ****, performs like ****, and is unsafe as all hell.

thanks xsta...i was just curious on the 275 on the 17 because before I bought my car, I was looking at a camaro that was running 275s on the same rims I have bought...the tires on the 17s right now are 245/45/17 and are the same height as stock and that is fine with me. I don't really need a wide tire up front...

personally, i would just stick with the 275's out back.....the 1cm difference in width will not make that big a difference in traction, and at least with the 275-35/18 tires, you'll keep the speedometer pretty close to accurate. the only way i'd worry about going with the 285's is if:

1) they were less expensive, or
2) if you were going to be getting a tune soon anyway, and can get the speedo corrected with the tune.
