Mickey Thompson by Cooper Tires I have been shopping for some off-road tires after I lift my truck and I was trying to figure out who actually makes each "brand" of tire. I found out the DOT label on the tire will tell you who made it (along with the date) http://www.tire-information-world.com/dot-company.html
What I found out is that there are only 2 American passenger car tire companies now, Cooper and Goodyear (Hoosier is also American). Cooper Tires makes several brand names that I did not realize... Mickey Thompson is owned by Cooper and Cooper makes Pro-Comp tires, Avon tires, and I don't know what else.
Maybe people already know this information, but I just thought I'd share what I found out if you are interested in buying American made tires if given a comparable choice. I've narrowed my tire decison to Cooper STT, Kumho KL71 and MT MTZ...
