Default 245/45/16 instead of 235/55/16??

will 245/45/16 work instead of 235/55/16 tires on my buddies 2002 Firebird V6?

absolutely. your wheels are 16x8s and you can even run a 255/50/16

245/50/16 would be the standard replacement size for the 235's; as stated above, 255/50's will work and are closest to the original height of the 235's.

thanks guys, couple more for u.....how far off would the speedo be, and what all season perf tires would you recommend for a 02 V6 Firebird? BFG traction TA? Goodyear GS? any help appreciated

Speedo will be fine. In the other thread, we are talking about the new BF Goodrich g-force Super Sport all seasons. Go to tirerack.com and check some out.

Potenza Pole Position RE960AS

All above listed from tirerack pros cons for all of these? Anyone running them? Need these for all season V6 Bird, snow driving included TIA

First off, IF you were asking about how far off the speedo would be with 245/45 16s, it could be off by a good amount as that tire is a full 1" shorter in overall diameter. It would probably affect the ABS operation as well.
The other sizes would be just fine.

Out of the listed above, the Potenzas would be the best in the snow, and they are the only ones (I think??) with a 40K mile treadwear warranty. They are also the most expensive.
The BFG G force Super Sport all seasons (which you did not list) will be the stickiest (as far as DRY handling/traction goes) out of anything above (or ANY of the available all seasons). These have no treadwear warranty, but are about $30.00 cheaper per tire than the Bridgestones.
