Default Polishing Wheels

OK, I know there are a lot of threads on this, but I need some solid results on polishing. I have tried all the off the shelf items and even a drill polishing wheel and compound. Nothing is giving me the results I am looking for. I want a mirror/chrome finish. Most aluminum/metal polished just polish the imperfections. I want them removed and I do not want to loose my arm or days doing so. Please help.

In Order To Get The Mirror Finish You Are Looking For You Need To Sand Then Polish Them. You Could Spend Days Doing The Same Spot With Just Compound And Not Get The Shine You Want.

I tried doing that in one spot. Made a difference, but I need better techniques. I think I also used too course of a paper since it took forever to get the sanding marks out. And I still could not get the mirror finish I was looking for.

Try a real heavy sweatshirt or hoodie turned inside out. Kinda feels like flannel. I also just tried Meguiars Hot rims and that stuff works better than mothers in my opinion!

Yes, you need to go from a low grit all the way to a high grit. i would start at 600 and go all the way to at least 1500. If your just touching it up , try going with just 1500. It depends on how bad your Finish is. Sand in one direction, use a wheel with the white buffing compound , then finish it off with something like mothers metal polish. It will look like chrome or very close. The most important process is the sanding. The better and more time you spend sanding, the better the finish will turn out. Be patient, and do it right the first time. There is a guy on this site that is very good a this, but i cant remember his name. Maybe he will chime in.
