Default 15x6 TT2's in the front?

My front TT2 rims were in pretty bad shape when I got the car, and now after 100K of driving into the D.C. potholes they're pretty much shot. Last time the guy couldn't even balance them well since they're so banged up. I was thinking about getting the same TT2's in a 15x6 and running a taller, skinnier tire on it. I've seen that a 215/65/15 is 26 inches tall with a 7 inch tread width. That, with the smaller rim should be alot lighter than my 17x9.5 TT2 with 285/40/17's that I have now. The 15x6 has the same bolt pattern but the offset on my rims is 43 and the 15x6 has -3 or something like that. Will wheel spacers fix that, and will the 15x6 fit over my calipers without much grinding? My car is not a WS6 and only came with the 16 inch rims so they should fit easier than on an SS or WS6. I'm basically trying to do a modified front runner without going so skinny because I drive the car so much.
