a lot of this has to do with the climite. id bet the cold isnt as bad as the humidity, then no humidity the way it is in florida. expand and shrink, expand and shrink. im no tire expert, but maybe you could compare it to bending copper tubing back and forth. sooner or later the heat is going to fatique and crack it.
i dunno.

Nittos are a complete joke when cold; Mickeys stay sticky. Mickeys are better than summer performance tires in the cold. These tires are great at all temps as long as the road surface is dry.

Nope I've got the 555s in the front of my car they are fine, the DR's cracked on me. It's because the car sits outside in the winter.

I know. I put that up to show that it says it on the tire when you buy them. Since most people probably don't go to the website and read service bulletins.

just picked up a set of 555r's that had been in someone's garage for 3 years. he drove on them once and then put them up. they are in mint condition. i took them out and they dont hook when cold but after warming them slightly they hold my 3200 stall and tr224 cam off the line.

They were good but not as good as the nittos on the street. At the track it is a very different story, but on the street the nitto hooks the best, and last for a decent amount of time, and are pretty good on wet pavement. So I think you comment that nitto sucks is very unfair!!!
I agree with this guy! I had em (NITTO,S )on my 87 GN a few years back and they ROCKED for street tires !Thats all Ive ran after trying some BFGood T/A,s at a pretty penny, that didnt seem to last as long or hook as good on the street as the Nitto,s.Thats why im getting em with my new CCW 505a,s next week and they will be in a heated garage during the winter and if it wasnt heated ,I.de switch em out and keep em in the house during the winter!Common sense!~
