Default Keeping inside of wheels looking good....

Just got a set of new Chrome ZR1's to replace my polished ones. Anyone know a good way to keep the backside od the wheels looking good?

The have that damn "machined" surface like most aftermarket wheels that gets near impossible to keep clean on a daily driver.

Any suggestions?

With the wheels off, I scrubb the area up real nice with a scotch brite pad, then wax it. Nice thing about ZR-1's is the opening is big enough that after the wheels are mounted you can get your hand in there to wipe out the worst of the gook.

Yeah, plan to wax them. Just wish they would make that surface smooth.. those grooves pickup too much crap.

What you could do, is scurb the wheels up reall good, and them mask the area off and spray with Dupli Colors, wheel clear coat. Nice and thick spray that is supposed to be resistant to heat, and chemicals.

Just a thought - I need to do something to the FIKSE's since they are bare aluminum and like to get that nasty white poweder residue on them. The trick would be how to deal with the wheel weights. HMMMMM.

Good question. I have always wondered if they make a ZR1 in Chrome with a smooth finish on the inside. Does anyone know if they do?

Take them in and get the insides clear powdercoated.. That is if you want it done right

Shouldnt cost more than $80 or so.. I plan to have the insides of my new Budniks clear powdered (maybe the outsides too since they are polished)..

with my old Hawk rims and now with my new chrome ZO6 rims I just wash the insides whenever I washed the car. I had enough room to use a small sponge in between the spokes.

Make sure you are using ceramic pads also, they dont produce half the dust of metallic. Less dust = less mess

I like the powder coating idea. Wonder if they can powder coat clear over the whole chrome wheel?

I just take my wheels off every now and then and use comet to scrub with and after that I wax them.

Just get the clear wheel coating. That stuff is pretty tough! I use it on other parts that see alot of road debris and it stays on. I also have the chrome ZR1's. Out side is easy to clean but the inside is a bitch since it lacks the chrome coating. I'm doing this next time I have the wheels off.

I apply the clear Dupli-Color wheel paint to all my blue parts of my 4x4:

If I didn't do that, the winter months would eat the blue paint. Here in Colorado, we use mag-cloride during the winter months which is nasty on some finishes. The clear coat seams to work and is more durable than the enamel clear coats. Never had any problems peeling.
