Just a topic for discussion
I personally don't understand how some people on this forum say that Corvette wheels should not be put on a Camaro or Trans Am. I personally think that most corvette wheels look great on a Camaro or Trans Am, and it seems that a lot of people on here agree. For those who don't agree, why?
Also, I don't understand how the TTM wheels are liked so much. The TT II's look so much better and weren't the TTM wheels put on the Mustang GT's from the factory? If anything, putting factory Mustang GT wheels on a Camaro, Trans Am, Corvette or any other GM car is a disgrace (yes, I know its a little overkill, but you get my point).
Anyway, these are just a few points that I have pondered over the last year or so and wanted to know what the LS1tech community thought.
As for Corvette wheels some look better on either body style again IMHO. Such as C5 Z06 wheels look good on Camaros, not so good on Firebirds. C5 wheels (thin 5 spoke) I feel look better on Firebirds thatn Camaros. C6 Z06 wheels look OK on either.
I personally am not a fan of the TTM, although is a nice alternative if looking for a wheel similar to the ones GMMG used on the ZL1's. A nice feature of the TTM over the TT2 is you can get the wheel in multiple finishes, including grey, or black spokes, or even full chrome, which have easier maintenance. A few different sizes to choose. Yes the TTM looks similar to the Mustang wheel . . so what.
I have always like TT2's, they look great on either body style. But they only come in partil chrome or full polish. Polished wheels require special care. Limited sizes, and 18's are special orders.
That's it in a nutshell.
Personally, I can't see spending money on a wheel that was an OE GM wheel on another car, such as putting a Corvette wheel on an F-Bod, or a C-6 'Vette wheel on a C-5. If I'm spending money on a wheel, I want something DIFFERENT.
Just my $0.02 worth......

Everyone wants to know how their car looks with the ZR1s, C5s, z06s, c6s, TTMs or TTIIs. All I want to say in a reply is just click the search button and look at the other hundreds of f-bodies in here that have the same wheels. IMO they are all a little played out, but if that is what people like, then let them do to their cars as they like. ****, put a huge 3 bladed wing on the back if thats what you want.
I have opinions but i hardly voice them because i dont want to start a feud also..
My next wheel will be a TT2 in black..Preferably in 18".. rare ..yes

OEM designed wheels are generally affordable and there are fewer problems with fitting them on F-bodies. I had ZR1s for a while and they looked good. The problem is, OEM wheels are usually heavy, and since they are affordable, they're hardly unique. Granted, unique can be good or bad. I've seen some very unique looking F-bodies on dubs that make me want to vomit.
But I digress.
OEM wheels and TT2's/TTM's are what I call "safe". You know what you're going to get. You know what it will look like. You know they will fit. There's a lot to be said for that.
However, when someone takes a chance with a new design or a different wheel manufacturer, it has a polarizing effect. There are many posts where people ooh and aah over the wheel. There are usually just as many that give backhanded compliments like, "Different". Some people just can't wrap their minds around something that isn't what they expect to see.
It all comes down to personal preference and, ultimately, what the owner of the car likes. Some people might like a donked out F-body. I don't.
And I get that people don't want to spend $3000 on wheels. For me, though, wheels make or break the appearance of a car. Personally, I just can't get excited about posts where someone proudly shows off their "new" TT2's or Z06 wheels. They might be new to that car/owner, but there is nothing new about the design. You can paint them or polish them, but they're still the same old wheels that have been seen time and time again.
I wanted to do something different, and that costs money. Sure I could have dropped $3000 into the engine to go faster, but that's not the route I decided to go. Yet.

A lot, I think, also has to do with where you live. Maybe because of the 4 month winters, along with a lot of new car leasing, people in my area don't seem to get into custom wheels anymore... except for maybe the "ricer" and "dubs" crowd. I, on the other hand, wouldn't think of driving a car with the OE wheels, except maybe during the winter, with the snow tires on them. I bought my first set of "custom" wheels in 1972.
10 years ago, I bougt a set of CCWs for my Z-28. I had them until a short time ago, as I simply wanted to try something else. I also had a set of CCWs on my C-5 for several years, but developed some issues with the tire pressure sensors, so I switched to something else. However, in all that time, I NEVER saw another set of CCWs in my area.
THAT'S what I call being different.
I never understood why people disliked Corvette wheels on Camaros/TAs, so I figured I would ask. I always thought they looked good.
As far as them being played out, I agree. But they still look good.
Chupra0kabra makes some good points. In order to be unique, your going to have to spend more money than the next guy.
But still, everytime I see a TTM wheel, I think mustang gt. But I guess that's just me.
