Exclamation Adapter/spacer Problem

I recently purchased some 1" adapters . My problem is that my cars bolts/studs are too long, so when installing the adapter the wheel doesnt sit correctly because they hit the original bolts. Has anyone had the same problem? Any idea of what I can do besides changing bolts? Im not sure if previous owner installed aftermarket studs. Is grinding or cutting the excess out of the question? The studs sticks out about 1/2-3/4" after adapter is installed! I have OE Y2Ks 17s front, and 18x9.5 rear 275/40/18s. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

I had to chop mine down a bit to make them work. What I did was I threaded a die onto the stud all the way down, made the necessary cut with a grinder wheel, then slowly reversed the die back off the stud to fix up any damaged threads from cutting.

IMO the die is a MUST when doing this or youll never get the lugs to thread on after cutting.

A die, will "rethread" the stud. You can buy a tap/die set. Pretty handy to have around.

I've always used an old lugnut and put washers behind it to set the amount of threads to be cut off. That way the same amount was taken off each stud. Then used a hacksaw to cut them by hand. The lugnut will get scuffed up some but no big deal because I usually used an old stock one anyway. Plus it gives you a good flat surface for the blade to ride up against.

I didn't have to cut any of the threads when I had the Y2Ks. Just the extra un-threaded bit past the studs. But I did have a couple of nuts where the threads started in case i went too far.

I was concerned about that as well when I was looking for spacers for my OEM C6 rims. I decided to go with 1.25" adapters and they fit without having to "modify" (IE cut-off) my stock studs.

If you don't want to cut your stock studs, then go with 1.25" adapters.

Now that I know that cutting is OK, or has been done before with no serious problems, I'll probably do that especially since all the extra part is un-threaded. THANKS FOR THE HELP

Yea, it's fine. I had to run 2" spacers on my dually to clear the 35's. I cut all 16 studs on the rear of it. Removing a couple of threads isn't anything to worry about. That was on an 8000lb truck, so a 3Klb Fbody should be ok.
