Default Wiring help

How do you wire a toggle switch? I am going off the 12v cig lighter power and ground and i want to hook up two 12 volt led strips. But it keeps blowing the fuse.

Just out of curiousity did you use a higher amp fuse? The increased load may be too much for the fuse that is in there. I know this maybe elementary but it is a consideration. If so you may want to consider another power source like off the radios power wire. You can also use a different ground possibly to help. Just throwing out a couple of ideas.

So are you saying to try a higher amp fuse in place of the 25 that's in the fuse panel?

Are you using a lighted switch? An unlighted toggle switch has only two terminals and really can't be wired wrong - one terminal goes to the input power and the other goes out to whatever accessory you want to control.

A basic lighted switch has three terminals. One is for power input, one is for output to the accessory, and the third one is ground for the switch light. Connecting this incorrectly could have the power input going directly to ground when the switch is off. The switch should be labeled but if not you'll usually find the terminal by itself is for power input, the one directly above it is the accessory output, and the one beside the output is the light ground.

(This is the most common layout of lighted switch connections but always check the labeling to be sure.)

With this kind of switch, if you have the power and accessory connections reversed, the switch will work when on but will blow a fuse when switched off.

Yeah, so what was the problem? Im going to be doing the same mod this weekend. I wanna put a pair of small Red L.E.D strips under the dash and wire them to a toggle switch.
